Slow news day I admit, but I just remembered that I 'met' David Walliams in Charing Cross when over in the UK for an exhibition. I did the whole "I know I know you but I can't think where from" bit - and he knew I was, giving me a huge "hello!" and walking on past. He seemed a pleasant fella.
My father in law (RIP) went one stage further, he met Eric Bristow in Stoke and asked him if he was still at the factory.
I hear celebrities can be quite horrible but struggle to recall meeting even one of this type (it may come) - so, what famous people did you meet that were nice, or indeed, not nice.
Oh, I did the same with Windsor Davies in Tottenham Court Road many years ago, and he responded with the most fantastic "lovely boy" expression!

Whilst chairing a large black tie dinner I had the enormous pleasure of meeting Gordon Brown (the Broon frae Troon)
An absolute gentleman.
He started his after-dinner speech with this.....
Ladies and gentlemen I stand before you (at 6'5" and over 17 stone) a broken man. I have lost my battle against anorexia.
He proceeded to captivate the 120 present for 40 minutes without the use of a single note and sat down to a richly deserved standing ovation.
Taken from us at 53 years old.
PS I've also met crabbit ;)
-
And a crappy Prime Minister!
-
The dear man would have probably made a better job of it than his namesake.
-
Andy Grey liberties nightclub 1983..what an idiot..2013..no change.

As you can see they were stunning! And so nice too. ;)

Three stunners Lotty :)

I have met some famous people and some through my business. However, I have had the pleasure of having titled people as customers and always found them to be so unassuming, never mentioning their titles and always wanting to be on first name terms.

I'll take that as a no then :D

1978, first trip to America, walking past a Holiday Inn lounge, heard singing, went in and found a table next
to a reserved table. The singing was the Platters and at the interval came and sat next to us, heard our English
accents and spent the interval talking about us,them,London,UK generally.Really nice people, signed a menu for me
with some nice comments.
Met several famous people but can't think of any who were "off"
One of the nicest was Elvis Presley's uncle, Vester. Spent over an hour chatting to him, a really humble man.
He had recently lost his wife of many years so much of the conversation was about her,he built the wooden
house where Elvis was born,he lived next door. The OJ Simpson trial was all the news then and he disliked
OJ to the point of hatred. He sadly passed away a few years ago.

Question...How where the famous people you have met.
Answer... All really nice as I recall...Phil Thomson my absolutely favourite.
-
i have met loads of famous people

Two weeks ago our lovely niece Cathy was asked to pose in a photo with another shopper.

Somewhat irritatingly, he was a pleasure. Git.

Jacqui - I have met Crispin Agnew. Without google, may I ask if you know him.
-
Is that Beckham scunner.
-
It is John, in Selfridges in London (with a WH Smith bit??!).
-

No, don't recall that name, however, I always made it a rule not to mention customers by name, even those who where not famous.
-
It's no surprise to me that Beckham was a pleasure scunner. I believe him to be a splendid fellow.
-
and so say all of us
-
Jacqui - he is Major Sir Crispin Hamlyn Agnew of Lochnaw, 11th Baronet QC.
He is probably the foremost expert on Land Law in the country.
My point, respectfully is, that people who have titles are not nessarily famous.
-
When we took customers to watch an England game, had the pleasure of meeting Trevor Brooking & Gary Lineker pitchside - I can report two further quality celebs - Lineker was happy to stand and talk footie, and Brooking is just entirely what you see on the telly. At the end of the conversation you just want to give him a great big hug :D

Very true John totally agree.
-
Steve Redgrave was fantastic when I met him at an awards ceremony a few years back. A true gent and a great sportsman.
-
I met Tom Moss once, or twice, I was so awe struck that I cannot quite remember where, or even when. : :) 8)
Met Adam Faith in London's Shaftesbury Avenue , whilst attending an audition with Loz's brother Stuart. I also literally "bumped" into the great Bobby Moore in Notting Hill Gate, he apologised for not looking where he was going, ( he was exiting a bookies), and shook my hand !! Lovely chap.
-
I've met Norman (bite yer legs) Hunter a few times at Leeds games. A gentleman and always willing to sit down and have a chat about the team.
-
Many (many) moons ago, I was a fledgling reporter in the newsroom at Radio Hallam. One of my duties included looking after visitors, which meant making tea or coffee, fetching sandwiches and making small talk until they were due on air.
I have genuinely forgotten a lot of the visitors, but none of them were earth shakingly famous, but I remember Cliff Richards and Dana for some reason. Both were very pleasant as I recall. I was fascinated watching Dana put a dental prosthetic in to close the gap in her front teeth. I remember thinking how glamorous and pretty she was.
The people I found the most unpleasant and tiresome were some (not all) of the Radio Hallam DJs who were 'famous' in Sheffield. They were really up their own orifices.
-
Can't think off hand who I've met, but my claim to fame is that when I worked in Biochemistry I tested the blood of a few famous people, including Laurence Olivier, Imran Khan, Fred Perry and Vera Lynne.
Vera Lynne refused to pay her bill on the basis that she was famous, but paid in the end.
-
Met Tommy Docherty and he was very down to earth, happy to chat and not at all stand offish. I also met Tommy Smith (LFC), all I would say was that he didn't strike me as a very happy man in fact a bit angry, and from quite a bit of what he said he had a few hang ups about Emlyn Hughes. The Queen once passed me in the street but she didn't stop, but she certainly waved.

Mrs KKOB and myself were enjoying a drink or 3 in the Tequila Bar in Oludeniz a few years ago when there was a bit of a strange moment. An oldish fella with long blonde curly hair had just walked in and everybody, except me, seemed to be staring at him. He sat at the bar and ordered a drink and it was obvious from all the nudging and whispering going on around the bar that he was somebody special. I asked Mrs KKOB what the fuss was all about and she told me the fella at the bar was none other than Robert Plant. Now, be a lifelong non-fan of Led Zeppelin, that meant absolutely nothing to me.
It turned out that he owned a villa on the top of the hill in Oludeniz and was a regular visitor to the Tequila Bar and a good friend of the staff.
A little while later when it was getting near to closing time he was sitting in the back of the bar giving Barabas, one of the barmen, some tips on guitar playing. I asked if it would OK to take some photos to which he readily agreed and Barabas ended up with a unique record of his "guitar lessons from a rock legend".

Met Dana..did you say all kinds of everything remind me of you menthol
;D :-[ ;D, my man drove us insane singing that bloody song :-\

Met Hughie Green when my OH was working a summer season in the Isle of Man - what a lovely fellah he was, not at all smarmy like his Opp Knocks persona.
In the same season we also met Ken Dodd and he was quiet and serious off stage - if you could ever get him off the blooming' stage!
Worst I met was Roy Walker - foul-mouthed ignoramus!
-
Freddie Mercury. He was wearing a fur coat. I said "I like your coat Freddie and he replied "it's Fox darling"
My friend and I were in our early teens, we went up to Heathrow airport to catch Queen who were on their way to Japan. Only 11 young fans turned up and we spent over an hour with them! Brian May was absolutely lovely, he kissed us all and thanked us for coming to see them off! We were allowed to kiss Freddie' s cheek lol!
Such a Diva. Love him!

I have met Des Martinson a couple of times in the Mosiac ... does that count?
On David Walliams, mentioned by Scunner at the start of this thread, I saw him in a Pinter play in the west end. He was acting alongside Michael Gambon and David Bradley, and was out of his league in acting terms, let alone acting in a Pinter play, as wooden as a length of 4 x 2!! After the play he came out and chatted for ages to my daughter - a regular stage door Jenny!! - and a group of other young women. He was charming, paying attention to questions as he signed autographs, took his time was never in a rush, in short a very nice bloke. Mind you that does not mean I rate his acting ability any higher. ;)
-
I'm ashamed to say that I forgot to mention that I have also met the famous Geordie, Des Martinson. Also Stephen Hendry (in our local Tesco) - fairly miserable, as was ex-Tottenham and Luton manager David Pleat. Dennis Waterman was a nice fella (crap actor though), as was ex-Jam bassist Bruce Foxton, a real down to Earth, normal guy :)
-
Bruce Foxton, top top bass player, the Jam sound would never have been as good without his playing ..... where is he now?
-
He was bassist with Stiff Little Fingers for many years (that's where I met him) - possibly 10 years in fact. He left and toured/recorded with Rick Buckler, and was in another band and last I heard he had patched up his differences with Weller enough that he played bass on Weller's last album. I think.

When I used to do that thing called work...I was contracted to wire Linda McCartney's new stables at their house, she was very nice, saw husband Paul as well, lovely house...then ,our last house before moving here backed on to a old converted windmill that Paul used as a recording studio
Also I wired the cube house...pet shop boys,manager,....on the program Grand Designs

I worked for a company in Liverpool and Hughie Green was a Director. There was a take over in the Board Room and Green was pushed out. He rang the office and spoke to a 19 year old telephonist who had been told not to put any of his calls through. He shouted so loud we could all hear him he turned the air blue and brought the telephonist to tears with his disgusting language. The Office Manager got on the phone to him and gave him a piece of her mind.
I have met Ken Dodd and always found him pleasant. A friend's oldest brother worked for Ken as a Saturday job, when Ken had a fruit and vegetable van in Liverpool.

Could we have a connection here Terrie, one of the last contracts i worked on before we moved from Kent in 1976 was Paul Mccartney's country house in Peasmarsh.Durtnell were the contractors.Met Macca Linda and the children. We pitched the roof on the extension and done some work on the lodge house. It's still one of my fondest memories of the building trade, works a lot easier when you are in your thirties :)
-
Could we have a connection here Terrie
A live one no doubt :D
-
You are such a live wire and bright spark Keefo ;)
-
I've met quite a few "famous" persons. The most ignorant being Ryan Giggs. Quite the most obnoxious little git anybody could ever meet!!!! Amongst the nicest are Jamie Redknapp and Razor Ruddock, 2 gentlemen :D
-
I've met many famous folk in my line of work but a couple spring to mind.
Omar Sharif getting his (very hard fought) battle to take his new lady friend back for a "nightcap" turned down so I dropped him back at his hotel & took the lady home. En route she made me smile with "he may be famous but he's still not getting in my knickers on the 1st date" :)
Christoper Biggins who was VERY drunk after his last night in panto & all the cast had gone out to celebrate. Now he's got a funny soh at the best of times but when he's totally out of his head he's just a barrel of laughs, had me in stitches.
Arthur Scargill who I took from Brighton to London after a BBC Question Time during the miners strike. I told him I was not interested in politics so could we chat about "anything but" if at all possible & that's exactly what we did, changed my impression of the man for at least an hour or so!
Zoe Ball, just a sweetheart & so down to earth. Another who was completely non pretentious was Richard Branson, an average guy who has made his money the hard way but still remembers where he came from.
Following on from Scunner I took David Walliams home (he lives next door to Zoe & Norm!) a month or so ago, dark glasses & cap pulled down tight, maybe it was the raging hangover at 10am that he was trying to hide but there's no mistaking the smell of a person who has been "on the drink" the night before, he was just grumpy!
& there's many more...
-
Rossano Brazzi whilst working in a hotel in London. Nice fella :)
-
Zoe & Quentin if you don't mind S'cabby!

Bobby Murdoch and Bobby Lennox at corporate hospitality at Parkhead.
The reason I mention it is that we were all presented with a book of road maps and Bobby Murdoch kindly signed my one.
Excitedly, I took it home and proudly showed it to the present Mrs H. The following conversation then ensued
ME: “Would you look at that”
MRS H: “I can’t read that”
ME: “It’s Bobby Murdoch”
MRS H: “Who’s he”
ME: “A Lisbon lion”
MRS H: “Why did you get a rugby player to sign it”
Aggggghhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

The only famous people I have met were Valkilmer and his wife Joanne, who is a personal friend of my wife. They were both charming and very humble.
-
I have met many famous people throughout my life (those of you who know me well will know why/how), but the one person I am most proud of meeting not once but 3 times is the Queen.
-
Hate to brag but this is me and Robbie Burns (and before KKOB says anything, no, I am really not that old)

I've been lucky enough to meet a fair few through work but the stand-outs (good and bad) were:
Gok Wan - spent the day travelling round Yorkshire on a coach with him, an absolute hoot and lots of fun.
Jenson Button. Lovely, open, friendly (and gorgeous). ;)
David Cameron. Um, yeah. Says a lot without really saying anything.... In the real world he'd be instantly forgettable. : :)
Princess Anne. I'm not a royalist at all but I was massively impressed; I hosted her at an event while working for a charity of which she is patron and after speaking to people once she remembered all their names for the farewell line-up. (And no, nobody was whispering in her ear!)
David Jason. Possibly the biggest disappointment as I was always such a fan. Superficial prima donna and up his own whatsit. I was gutted. :(

In Dubai I was at Dubai creek golf course,
booked tee time as I was on my own, the pro who is a friend said would I mind joining with another 2 ball
To keep play moving. Imagine my surprise when Henrik Larrson walked on the tee
Being a big Celtic and man utd fan and despite being 5 handicap at the time
I have never been so nervous hitting first tee shot
But an absolute gentleman on and off the course, and still my hero
-
I have met many famous people over the years but the one that sticks out in my mind is the most recent. Whilst in my favourite bar on the Strand in London (it's called the Port House) in November I noticed Ralf Little (of Royale Family fame) sat at the next table. No less than five times he and his girlfriend were interrupted by people asking for photographs etc. and on every occasion he took the time to speak to them and duly obliged with a friendly smile. I made the point of saying to him how nice it was that he did that and he just smiled, shrugged and said "thanks".

As well as working in the construction industry all my life .. my wife and I from 1983 to 2002 were heavily involved in the `entertainment` world and during that time met and shared the company with many celebrities and movie stars.. to name a few memorable ones... first and the best was in 1989 when my wife and I and Oliver Reed and his then new wife of 23 yrs old.... just the four of us shared a golden hour or so at a hotel in Devon... He was there all week end but drunk and out of his mind most of the time , but when it was just the four of us it was ealy morning he was sober .. and the charisma was oozing out of him... my wife melted in his prescence :-) but its an hour of chatting etc with him we will never forget.
Also we spent a lot of time with Michael Aspel and during the filming that was on going we spent a lot of time with him... a very vain and boring person... yes a good tv host / presenter etc but as a person .. not in the same league as `Ollie`.. and if anyone wanted Aspel`s autograph he manouvered himself to pose
Michael Caine was someone that my wife chatted to for about twenty minutes .... a real gentleman and likeable bloke and an occasion she wont forget... sooo easy to talk to
The chef from faulty towers ( actors name escapes me ) we also had the pleasure of spending a long time with... another nice guy
We have met many lesser actors and personalities over the years .. too many to name here but they were`nt big like the above mentioned
