Had a meeting yesterday with every business owner in and around of calış beach at delta hotel with the presence of Mete Ay from Çalış Der. Main subject was the state of the beach. He told us that they applied to goverment to run the beach which they still waiting for the answer. However bad news is its nearly mid may and there is still no answer to who will run the beach this summer and how long before someone comes and cleans the beach set the sunbeds etc. So yesterday he urged us to clean the beach in front of our premises. So we are as Vojo going to do our bit and start cleaning the beach in front of our place. If any of you want to come join we will provide free tea-coffee and if you have any equipment please do bring them along too. Thank you
-
Well done :).I hope everyone joins in and makes the beach more presentable and clean.
In the 7/8 years I have been coming to Calis I have never used the beach, mainly due to the fact that I don't like
sitting amongst dog s--t, cigarette buts and rubbish :( :(.As a beachside resort the beach should be a priority.
-
What time do you want people to come Volkan?
-
Great idea! Sorry we are not in Calis to help.
-
Well done Volkan.
George, according to his FB post 10am tomorrow morning
-
Sorry we are not there until end of the month, we certainly would have been there to help with this problem.
-
Great news. Would have def been there but Cant help as not over till 27th but will be there in spirit.
Hope you get lots of support.
Someone take some pics of turn out then we will see who cares
-
Once done, how about a boycott on those establishments who couldn't be bothered :)
-
And a prominent list on the Forum throughout the season. ?? ;)
-
Well done Volkan, we will definitely, once again come to your place as it's nice to see someone who wants to keep the place clean and tidy and it's people like you we want to give our business too.
I think a list of restaurants who are cleaning the beach would be a great idea so we know who to use.
-
An interesting thing in the original Vojo post is that Mete has applied for them to take over the beach management. Mete's a sharp guy - I wonder if prising control from the Belediye could allow the bars and restaurants to 'service' their part of the beach - e.g. better loungers/brollies, cheaper priced (than belediye) or free if you are buying drinks/food, waiter service on beach - and anything else that might give the restaurant an edge.
I've seen it work in other resorts and it's a win - win situation for all :)
-
Our concerns have already spurred some action :)
Casa di Mama chaps out making a start on their frontage:

-
Brilliant :)
Let's hope there's a big improvement over the coming days
-
Very typical photo though - one working, one posing for the camera, two watching ;)
-
Well done Volkan for getting the ball rolling on this sorry we are not in Calis to help tomorrow but we will also be returning to your fine establishment this summer...
-
Very typical photo though - one working, one posing for the camera, two watching ;)
Just needs all the cr*p to be tipped in the Sea and were sorted ;) ;)
-
No Glennb. do that and it will just return with the tide, it needs to be taken away on lorries as they do at Olu deniz every year.
-
I think he knew that Des. . . Tongue in cheek thing! x ;)
-
Well done Volkan and the others for your efforts, I was dreading showing new people the place I rave about ;D
-
Well done to VOJO's for " getting the ball moving" on this. I still cannot understand why whoever has control of the beach cannot do the same as is done in Spain, i.e. a scarifier towed along the beach early EVERY morning behind a tractor, then the resulting debris/crap lifted at intervals along the way . ????
-
They can't "scrape" the beach as the turtles lay their eggs there during the summer.
-
The Mayor is sending a team of Belidiye workers to assist with the clean up. They will be there at 10:00am this morning
-
They can't "scrape" the beach as the turtles lay their eggs there during the summer.
Don't the Turtles lay their eggs in September? : :)
Glad to hear that the Mayor is now taking some action too. Seems our little Forum has made a difference. ;D
-
It has Jacqui and he has asked me to send his thanks to everyone who helps this morning and his assurance that he is working hard to find a political and permanent solution to the problem.

Apparently the breeding season is pretty much the same as tourist season May until end of September ;)

Anyone remember this?

It was a great success, Volkan looked after everybody so well, he had the music playing, supplied free tea, coffee and water, then gave everybody free ice creams and a bacon bap after the work was done, it seemed most restaurants got involved, notable absence though from Bella Mammas, the former Kasaba and Hotel Berlin. Shame really.
The boys from the new clothes shop next door to VoJos worked like Trojans and were still hard at work when we left, anyway, here's our beach like you've never seen it before :
-
Thanks for that Rimms. It's great to see the beach looking good again and a big thank you to everyone who helped out, sounds like Volkan is real asset to Calis Beach. Will give the new clothes shop my business too.
So, we now know the three places who did not help, so they are off my list now. I think Bella Mamas surprises me the most as they get so much businesses from tourists and so many recommendations on this Forum. Also their Hotel, the Delta, has no pool, tourists who stay there are encourages to use the beach. So it is now beneficial that the beach has been cleaned for them. However, I always preferred Casa De Mama anyway.
-
Thanks for the updates and photos, just wish we had been able to help but don't arrive till very Saturday , well done everyone who helped
-
Well said Jacqui, my sentiments exactly and probably many others too. Great job everyone! ;D
-
It looks beautiful, I was very dismayed when we were over last month, and I'm sorry we were not there to get stuck in.
Does this mean there will be no sun beds this season?
-
It was a good turnout at the Nil Bar too. All nice and clean now. Angel put on a buffet lunch for the workers. Lovely. It is a shame a lot of the other bars did not bother. Workers at Bambu made an effort but nothing from there downwards that I could see this morning, it may be different this afternoon.

Brilliant everyone.
Feel really guilty wasn't over to help
Hope the restaurants appreciate the help from those from this forum.
This one thing being achieved makes it worth being part of.

Dear sir..
its not my beach either. nor cleaning the beach was my idea. As all business owners it was a joint effort to do something about it and take the matter in our own hands. I have asked my friends and everyone who loves Çalış to come help us to clean the beach. For your knowledge We DID NOT SERVE to beach last year so your idea of us made millions totally rubbish. Also I had to laugh how you praise one business and when it comes to Vojo all of a sudden it's vojo's job to clean the beach ..
-
Well I for one am really pleased that VoJo's got the ball rolling with getting the beach ready, someone had to do something, when we were over at Easter it was not a pleasurable experience laying on the beach and we love our beach days out in Calis... goodness some people cant seem to do right from wrong :(
-
Well done to all that took part, the beach looks fab and clean again.
Great work Vojo for starting the job
-
Volkan my friend, you cannot make every one happy no matter how hard you try, there will always be at least one person who will act like an old woman, or even like a child !! >:(
You do what you feel is best, not just for Vojo's, but for the whole of Calis. See you in 3 weeks . 8) ;)

Actually both the Eyna & Palms did their bits too this morning
-
Lance you really are a lump of ****, these good people have turned out to make the beach a better place for us all, doesn't matter who is actually responsible for beach cleaning, why do you have to belittle everything?
-
Personal insults are not necessary. You have Facebook for that.
-
I feel very strongly that as a forum we have had a lot to say about the state of the beach, and how it would be a good thing if the local bars and restaurants tidied up the stretch of beach outside their own establishments. We do not need people to put a spoke in for the people who have gone the extra mile to help with the tidy up. ps I do not do facebook.
-
Again, you can feel strongly without name calling.
-
Personal insults are not necessary. You have Facebook for that.
Plus e-mail to further insult them, as you did to me Lance!
-
Lance, I don't care what anyone's says. You are Out of Order
-
Email insulting is fine, we don't run the World's email system ;)
-
;D ;D ;D
-
But now his comment seems to have gone ?????

Well done everybody, we will be arriving on 27 of June to a nice clean beach thanks to all your hard work, maybe there should be a name and shame list of the businesses that didn't contribute, we always eat at Bella mammas, but will vote with our feet, I have never eaten at Vojos, I love volkans passion and will give it a go this time plus the other businesses that helped out, I was feeling a little saddened by all the talk of the rubbish and lack of care, but I'm really looking forward to coming to Calis,
-
One of the most disappointing things about life over there is that it is always the ones that try that get the criticism - the ones who do nothing always avoid all the flack. And in regard to the beach it isn't true only of the restaurants - also Mete, who (freely by the way) does whatever he can to promote and improve Calis - so what do we see on Facebook? "Why isn't Mete doing his job"!!!
There's also a real attitude on many sides which is basically "If something needs doing, ignore till someone else does it". Then it invariably ends up back at the beginning of this post. The ones who can't ignore it anymore and mobilise themselves to address it are the ones who get attacked - and always by the ones that happily did nothing.
Mad.
-
The most disheartening FACT about all this is what the hell is the Belediye upto. Not a single beach resort in the world relies on bar owners and local people to clean its beaches. It's not rocket science, Beach resort= beach staff= clean. No staff= sh#t beach simple.Well done to every one that helped.
-
The beach is looking great, I may even venture down there for the 1st time this Saturday! :)
I realise it's not the restaurant owners responsibility to cares for the beach, but that's what makes Calis a special place, most people do get stuck in and try to make it better for us....
-
Well Done to Volkan and everyone else that was involved in the beach clean up.
Look forward to seeing you in June.
-
We To were dismayed by the state of the Beach. Great to see that a lot of effort has been put in to clean it up. We are in Calis mid June and will certainly be enjoying strolling along the Promenade and enjoying the view whilst sipping a bevvy. Again Thanks To Everyone Involved!!!!
-
Well done everyone. Looking forward to coming out next week and will be heading the way of the places that helped clean up 8)
-
well done everyone it looks fantastic can't wait to be there
-
Calis Beach has so much potential , if each bar on the front took care of their part of the beach it could become one of the very best places to sit in the sun and enjoy the beautiful scenery around. Also the bars would make more money from the customers using their part of the beach. :)
-
Thank you to everyone involved in Beach cleaning at Calis, yesterday. It was great to see so many businesses and the local community doing their bit. I just want to clarify that Bella Mamma's was involved, their staff were out collecting rubbish on the beach as they had also been the day before. Owner of Bella Mamas was with me we were try to organized the work our guys involved. Also I just notest other post in Facebook about Berlin Hotel. They were there for cleaning as well. We are really pleased that it has now become a collective effort. We will have a another cleaning on thursday (15th of May ) at 12:00 o'clock .Meeting Point will be Sun set terace on Calis Beach. If you like to join more then welcome.
-
So glad someone has pointed out that Bella Mama, plus the restaurant next door and the berlin DID in fact help clean the beach - not sure how people can comment on who exactly was on the beach clearing up as there seemed quite a lot. We use Bella Mama a lot, and wouldn't dream of boycotting it on unfounded comments. Well done everyone for clearing the beach. Look forward to seeing it next month.
-
Well done to everybody who has contributed to the cleaning of the beach great effort and I hope it will carry on, but shouldn’t this be the norm the idea“leave it for someone else “baffles me especially when so many bars/restaurants could with a bit of thought and graft make extra revenue from the beach, you just have to go to Sat or Guvens and see how busy there part of the beach is. My wife and I will go at least twice to Guvens when there for 2 weeks even though were not beach lovers we love just sitting looking out at some of the best views around and we can spend 70-80 lira in a couple of hours and we aren’t the only ones. I am sure they will get it right but the cleaning of the beach seems to be a problem every other year and it needs sorting out once and for all
-
So now that the beach is clean will it continue?I spent many hours last year at Caret ta and did not mind at all spending money at lunchtime , a few beers and a sandwich .This was all it cost us to sit on a clean beach with service if we wanted. We are spending 2 weeks at the Kaan in August which is opposite end of beach, will we get same treatment?Does this mean the restaurants will provide sunbeds free of charge if we frequent their premises? We are frequent visitors to Turkey and found the sunbeds rather expensive .

I don't think the comments where unfounded. An expat was on the beach and reported the following
......................................

We members had no reason to doubt his word.
-

The bars and restaurants would like to offer services like that more than anything - it all depends on local politics as to whether they would be allowed to. Yet to be answered.
-
Is the Kaan nearer to Koco Calis, or Calis beach?
-
You can bet your bottom dollar the man will be around as soon as you bum hits a sunbed looking for the money. The beledyie (whichever one it may be) will not want to lose that amount of revenu
-

Where is Koco Beach, in the Caribbean somewhere perhaps :D
-

Well I have been told that forget CBF, Mete, Vojos, Facebook & all the bars and restaurants who got stuck in, the Belediye have already released a press statement claiming credit for the whole thing - the idea and the cleaning.
Turkey eh, you have to laugh. Oh, actually no you don't.
-

Just next to " Echo Beach", far away in time !!
-
Don't go there Gordy, it's out of fashion. Oh, and a trifle uncool.
-
you two have well and truly lost me!

Think Martha and the Muffins or better still Google it!!

It is good to watch the sun go down though
-
i suppose a serious answer was too much to expect!
-
You started it!
-
true, are there two beaches?
-
No that was just an echo
-
or two parts to the same beach?
-

-
And just to make it even more complicated, there is an area called Foça Calıs, but, it doesn't have a beach, so don't go there !! ;D 8)
-
thanks Loz, do you know if its possible to walk to Koca from the Kaan hotel?
-
In all seriousness, ( for a change ), ;) it IS possible, depending upon your fitness/age, but it is quite a distance, maybe 3 klicks. There is a dolmus service that goes to/from The Surf Cafe, if you ask the driver when boarding, then you can walk the rest of the way to/from Koca Calis. You're welcome.
Gordy. (" Mr". Loz )
-
Thanks Loz for bringing some sanity to the post, and loved your little map! :)
-
Thank you, one last question! were is the surf cafe?
-
In Koca Calis..where they filmed the James Bond Movie Skyfall. Every waiter and everyone around the place was in the film...allegedly.
-
Thank you, one last question! were is the surf cafe?
dead on the yellow line between Koca Calis and The Twilight Zone, fantastic place to be.
and a map from the Kann this might help.
http://www.sunshine.co.uk/hotels/Kaan_Hotel-14832.html#map
-
couldnt find the map, but thanks Loz youve been a great help
-
Wlak to the part of the prom to where it starts to bend to the right - with the sea on your left as you walk. Right on the bend you will see a small path in front of you. Walk down here and past the small bars/restaurants (Guvens might stand out and is worth a visit). Keep walking and you will come to the area that is classed as 'The Twighlight Zone' by Loz. This is actually the start of Koca Calis according to many and the Surf cafe is about a 10 min walk from here. If you go beyond it there are other bars that have beach areas as well. Well worth a wander.
Enjoy.
-
thanks Loz, do you know if its possible to walk to Koca from the Kaan hotel?
If you can't be bothered to walk that far, just around the corner from the Kaan Hotel is Ali's bike shop, where you could hire the 3Cs bike for 10tl a day each. You'd then be able to get to all the beaches Surf Cafe & beyond.
-
Thanks everyone, the walk and the bikes both sound good
-
Bikes are a good idea - it's a fair walk in the heat. A bike is much easier and remarkably cooler as well.
-
If you want go to the surf cafe and beach and you're not sure where it is, the dolmus will take you right to it's doorstep, just say you want to go to the Surf cafe, and there is a timetable for your return journey, about every half hour.
