Following the recent mining disaster in Soma, Turkey, we want to do whatever we can to raise much needed funds to send over to the families that have been left devastated by this tragic event.
Tuesday night, starting from 8pm VOJO's will be hosting a quiz, a raffle prize and an auction. This will not be possible without your help. We urge you to donate anything you no longer require, for us to raffle and auction.
In return we will provide all of you with a free buffet. There is such a great community spirit in the area and in this terrible time we must all come together and show our support.
Please comment publicly if you are able to attend, and also if there is anything you can donate to the cause.
From the bottom of our hearts, we thank you.

Wonderful idea - do you have a Paypal account for cash donations?
-
hmm i dont think we have mate because we never needed it. However we do have mail order and can take any amount people would like to donate via their credit cards
-
Hi Volcan , I will hand in a litre bottle of Bacardi for your Quiz / Auction night on Tuesday.
Regards
Angie

You can use the Animal Aid Paypal account for this just make sure it is marked Soma Miners!
We are also donating all monies raised on our raffle at the Table Top Sale on Saturday, we will be there from 11am to 1 pm so please come along and buy a few strips, it is normally 3 to 400 lira but I think this may bring in a lot more this week.
-
For people in UK Paypal cash donations are best - you (as Andy has mentioned above) use the Animal Aid Paypal account and the link is
http://bit.ly/1enWaXM
If you don't have Paypal you can still donate - look at the bottom left, where it says "Don't have a PayPal account?
Use your credit card or bank account (where available). Continue"
A little will help a lot in this terrible situation.
Please again as Andy has said mark it with a reference like "MINER DONATION" or similar so it doesn't get confused with donations for the animals.
Thanks.

Kismet bar have already started collecting... So one in Calis and one in Fethiye so maybe they could join forces?
-
Maybe one in Calis and one in Fethiye is ideal - they could pool the total I guess, up to them.
-
Kismet are collecting non perishable food items, for example beans, lentils, pasta, flour, etc to be transported to the families.
A few people, myself included have offered to be collection points for these items.
-
Excellent stuff, it doesn't matter who is doing it, just that someone is - well done to all.
-
The more the better.
-
Have sent a donation via animal aid paypal account. It is a truly dreadful thing to happen, my heart goes out to the people suffering and of course the families who have not only lost their loved ones but in some cases the sole breadwinner. They must be truly heartbroken.
-
Our thoughts are with everybody from around Soma, absolutely devastating. Is there anyway of doing an "online" auction for some/all of the items. Pay by paypal and collect/re donate when over. May be a non starter but just an idea to generate some more funds for those who are going to need it.
-
Can someone give me the animal aid email please. I'm trying to donate via the link provided but for some reason paypal ain't playing that way for me :(
-
Awful news, words can't describe what these families must be going through, sorry I can't be at Vojos charity night but I have donated via pay pal to the animal charity marked the mine disaster, you guys are fantastic love to you all x
-
Has anyone got any thoughts about where money raised could be best used?
I've just seen a link on Twitter from IHH, they will be caring for orphans from Soma and are appealing for donations.
Does anyone agree this would be a good organisation to send the money people donate via AA etc to, and of course still send food to the area via Kismet.

Sounds good Linda, I have also suggested to Jo we give it to the Kismet boys to take up on Thursday and see how it can be best spent, we will see what Jo says as it's her event. :)
-
We will be taking a van to Soma on Thursday to distribute goods etc. We are currently talking with the local authorities there as to how best we can spend any cash donations! All help much appreciated. Peoples generosity has been truly overwhelming! Thanks to all

-
It's so good that everyone is pulling together on this. I have promised some money to VoJos when I arrive on holiday in 2 weeks for a voucher. I wish you every success for the evening VoJos, for the Animal Aid raffle on Saturday and whatever Kismet manage to pull together. Such a dreadful accident. Proud of you all.

If anyone who has used my Paypal address for CBF fundraisers before and is comfortable with doing that way please feel free
keith@calis-beach.co.uk is the Paypal account.
I'll see it safely across to Vojo/kismet. Please mention miners in the payment ref.
Also feel free to use the Animal Aid way, this is just another way to donate.
-
Vojo's also has a box outside now for contributions. So anybody over at the moment can contribute. Even if it is the change from a couple of beers it all helps. Great idea and well done.
-
Thinking of all the miners & their family..... Passed Vojo's today not aware of fund raising....will donate a bottle of Bombay sapphire... Will take it tomorrow....
-
A sacrifice indeed - well done you Gillian.
-
I have lt bottle of whiskey i will bring in and will get some dry goods today

Animal Aid made 660 Lira on their table top raffle today! All this will be winging it's way to the cause very soon, well done everyone that came down and supported us :)
-
Great news, well done all at Animal Aid.
-
Yes well done to Animal Aid and to everyone who bought raffle tickets today.
-
Great result well done. Saw the piles of donated food when we dropped some off to Kismet.
Hits home how simple staples are going to be so hard for some to afford and was very emotional.
Fantastic the way everyone's rallying and doing what they can.
Just hope they manage to deliver it to Soma.
Lawyers assisting the bereaved ( free of charge) and engineers been detained by Polis today, protesters being teargassed and water cannoned and all routes into the town have been blocked.
Sad beyond words.
Hopefully will calm down and aid will get through by Thursday.
-
Words fail me... They should be supporting these families in their time of grief not persecuting them.. The sooner they get rid of this present government the better.. I am absolutely outraged....
-
We WILL be going!!!!!!! The polis haven't reckoned on me have they!!! The generosity has been truly overwhelming and we all (Kismet, Vojos, The Bar, etc) thank you all. Now let the polis try and take an old queen on!!! Time to dust my tiara down!!!!!
-
Brilliant effort everyone, cannot get my head around the governments shocking reaction on all of this, good luck in getting the supplies to those poor families
-
We'll done everyone involved in helping the families of the Soma mine disaster . Good luck with getting the supplies through Kismet bar.

Keith,
just sent a donation, but forgot to mention miners - hope you can spot it.
Ian
Sorry for the delay Ian, I can confirm it safely arrived.
Many thanks to you and to all the others who donated via the CBF Paypal - I'll do a tot up later but I think we added around £200 so far to the earlier donations that went through Animal Aid's Paypal account. Great stuff.
-
I can confirm £206 can be added to date to the total from CBF donations via our Paypal. That's around 700 lira I think which can buy quite a bit :)
Thanks to all donors - never sure whether to thank you by name.
-
Hi keith hope that you received my donation via paypal I have just booked a last minute flight back out turkey in the morning so I will go down to vojos tomorrow and I will put abit more cash in the box as I know every little helps,mm

Here is the photos of the shirt

A massive thank you to all of you who came to support our fundraiser for the Soma Mining Disaster! We hope you all had a wonderful evening. Now the bit you have been waiting for, how much has been raised!
Raffle = 1200tl
Donation Box = 1085 (so far)
Auction = 1488tl
Calis Slimming Club = 500tl
Equals a massive total of = 4273tl !!!!!!!
INCREDIBLE!! And it is all thanks to all of you, for your donations and support to the cause!
We will continue to keep the donation box outside of the restaurant for the next few days in the hope that we can reach 5000tl
Once all the money has been collected and counted, we will then send it electronically to one of the official charities that has been set up, we will then post the copy of the transaction, so we can all see how much has been sent, and more importantly, that it has definitely got there!
So if you are walking past and have a couple of Lira in your pocket, please pop it into the box to help us raise our target.
Thank you once again xxx
-
Very well done to everyone who helped with this massive fund-raising effort. Will be bringing donation over on the 29th so keep donation box for a while, I know there are many others due out in the next week or two.
-
Over £1200 is a fantastic amount to raise for this deserving cause.
Well done everyone.
And may Kismet's Nigel and Ian and whoever else may be travelling with them, have a safe and successful journey tomorrow to Soma.
-
Fantastic.
Really enjoyed the evening.
-
Wonderful total - well done to all involved especially Volkan himself :)
-
It was a truly brilliant evening and Volkan did a wonderful job coercing and cajoling us to part with our lira to help those a lot less fortunate than ourselves. I'm sure over the next few days the magic 5000TL will be achieved.
-
We had a very nice night there last night, very entertaining, it was great to see people taking time out to think of these people in need and the generousity was immense!
We shall add our table top money into the box tomorrow which brings us up to 4,953 Lira!!!
Anyone got 50Lira ? ;D
-
I've got £220, will that do? :D
Paypal donations into CBF Paypal. I can arrange to send via Karaokemark I think so will do that tonight if I can get hold of him.
-
That's 777 Lira! Now we are on our way to 6,000!!!! ;D
-
There will be more to come!!
-
That's 777 Lira! Now we are on our way to 6,000!!!! ;D
Not £220, £226.70 to be precise - on it's journey to Vojos: http://www.calis-beach.co.uk/forum/index.php?topic=55268.0
-
Mark has just dropped the money off to us, and kindly rounded it up to £230 which at todays rate is 812tl!!
A massive thank you to Scunner and everyone on CBF that has donated, we have now raised just over 5000tl :)
Our donation box is still out the front of our restaurant to see if we can get the final amount topped up, and we will be sending the money next week.
We have decided to do it electronically so then we can get a receipt and the transaction statement, so that we can post it on all the sites so we can all see that it has got there!
All of us should feel so proud that we have all gotten together to show our support and love for this terrible disaster. Without your kind donations of money, food, raffle and auction prizes, none of this would have been possible.
Thank you x
-
A huge thank you to Animal Aid for raising 660tl at their raffle from their table top on Saturday.
The total now stands at 5745tl and the donation box has not been counted for a couple of days!
Lets keep it coming :)
Keep posted for updates x
