Hi everyone, Have any of you forum members had any experience of sailing lessons in or around the area please. I'm interested in a complete beginners course and would be keen to get feedback (good or bad) on lessons.

Yacht or dinghy sailing?
-
I think dinghy to start off with. Just want to try my hand at something different (for me anyway!)

Only places I have noticed dinghy sailing is as Jackie says at surf cafe they hire out sailing stuff. In fethiye harbour, I have seen local children out sailing with a safety boat, the sailing club is located by the boat yards at the end and the marina vista hotel. Hope you get sorted, sailing is a fantastic sport.

If you fancy something a bit different and have deep pockets, head over to Göcek. There's an RYA accredited school who do beginners sailing courses, unfortunately not dinghies though.

Surf Centre is a good place to start. A good qualified teacher, and life jackets are worn . The dinghies are small Laser dinghies but he does or did have small catamarans.
I went a couple of years ago , I cannot remember the cost but it was not expensive.

Dont know about the lasers, but the cats are €180 for six hours including instruction.

Thanks everyone - as ever the responses are very helpful and if you see an old guy sailing helplessly out to sea in the next couple of months call the Coastguard!

The good thing about calis is that the wind generally blows on shore..So you are unlikely to need to have your passport with you! If you do go sailing, it's useful to wear beach shoes, the neoprene type.
