As a lighter hearted follow up to the Indian call centre topic...
Not long after moving to Scotland we visited a a local garage to look at a car. Steph and I looked around it and as it was locked I said I'd go in and ask someone for the keys. Inside I found an empty office so went through to the workshop area, and found a man with his head under the bonnet hard at work. I asked for the keys and he told me in decent English but with a strong Polish accent that I was welcome to look with the keys but he was the mechanic, the boss was away for his lunch.
I returned to Steph and we had a good look inside the car. Then I saw another car, a totally impractical Alfa 2 seater so we went to look round that. Steph said that I might as well sit in it, even though we wouldn't be buying it - and said she'd go and ask for the keys.
When she came back she clearly had not understood the mechanic too well. "I didn't really have a clue what that bloke was saying to me" she explained. "I think he must be from Glasgow".
