Will prices drop

I was in Bodrum at the end of the season last year and was really shocked by how high prices were compared to Fethiye/Calis -  a cup of tea was 5 lira compared to 2.5 here and the meal we had out was about 30 lira more than I would have paid locally.   So perhaps if you compare Spain with the bigger tourist areas it is cheaper.

These surveys are quite simply a wate of time. Based on accomodation prices alone,Turkey comes way out in front, for example take a reasonable 3*hote1 in Calis, lets say the Seketur, 14 nights b&b 30/6/12 - 14/07/12(just before the kids break up for summer holidays), right opposite the beach £363.00 (for 2 people), Fuengirola, La Jabega, a studio for the same dates, B&B £770.00.More than twice the price + put the cost of an average 3 course meal in Calis, compared to Fuengirola & you are got to save a hell of a lot of wonga.

I agree these surveys are rubbish I just hope potential holiday makers dont pay too much attention to them. It certainly depends what the survey is based on and where. Istanbul is certainly a lot more expensive than the Fethiye area.

In some countries, those in the holiday trade, when faced with fewer tourists, drop their prices in the hope of attracting more holidaymakers. In other countries, those in the holiday trade increase their prices in order to take the same income from fewer customers. I call this "Eastern Mediterranean Economics" and Turkey is a prime example of it.

We go to Spain (Fuengirola) twice a year, and we go to Calis twice a year. We go to Spain on a 4* half board package deal and as drinks are very reasonable at the hotel - large beer 1.55 Euro (in happy hour) and a bottle of house wine just 5 Euro we end of paying the same as we do for a flight, hotel and eating out every night in Calis.  Both holidays are different but end up the same price - we thoroughly enjoy both.

Finding out the last few years that Spain is now cheaper than Turkey for us as the turks have inflated a lot of their prices the last few years this has put a lot of people i know from coming back here again
