Morning all.
Been following this thread carefully as we are visiting Hisaronu for the fourth time in August. Staying at a new complex, Orka village.*If anyone has details how that is going I would be really grateful.
I loved Hisaronu the first time I visited, loved the slow pace, the Turkish people really friendly etc. However, they have to move with the times and unfortunately most holiday places now have the obligatory small funfair, crazy golf, water parks etc. Maybe the locals looked around, thought, 'what is there for children to do on a night when parents have shops, bars, restaurants to while away a few hours etc?'
Personally, my children won't be visiting the small fair. But I can't say I begrudge them it...they are just trying to make money.
How many people have bought villas over in Turkey as an 'investment'? How many people have swimming pools with their villas? Sorry, but I think some comments about what the people are doing with their resorts smacks of hypocrisy. Sorry to sound rude, don't mean to be, but I feel sorry for the people in these resorts. They are just trying to make money whilst giving us a fab holiday.

Just got back from the area on Saturday.   Orka Village is looking really good.   It has been landscaped , planted and grass-seeded.    The pool is MASSIVE  (over 600 sq meters I think) and the complex  looks lovely and open.

Sure no-one will take offence to your comments everyone has their own opinion on changes each year, we personally did not buy as an investment, purley because we loved the area and its beauty and yes everywhere changes. Although it has to be said that advantage is taken by a lot of shops etc to the unsuspecting tourist but again this happens everywhere. All we choose to do is avoid the places we now think are more like Benidorm than the usual relaxed pace we like. Looking at the "funfair" it looked dated, slightly ricketty and although we have 2 children we still would not visit. We also found this time a lot more hassle from shops etc and again this does not bother us but it does put some people off especially if they are visiting for the first time. We still love the whole area and there is enough for everyones cup of tea, just do not want the traditional turkish to disappear all together.  8) 8) :)

Hi,
Thanks for info re Orka village. We cannot wait to get there!! Did they have waterslides on pool, or are they not on yet? They are shown on original plans of site, but not sure how they will fit them on now.

I agree with you all about keeping Turkish way of life, I genuinely preferred it a few years ago. However, we are travelling with a mixed age group, so I suppose we will all want different things. Have to be honest we don't travel to Canaries, mainland Spain anymore because they just became too 'British:(
I hope they aren't hassling too much this year. Went to Altinkum three years ago and it was horrendous - so I hope it doesn't become like that. Anyone else out there in August, two teenage boys with us, so they are dying to chat to people before they head over.
Thanks again for all your info. This site is lovely and friendly.

Hi Slueth, I once said H was the blackpool here and Calis wasn't and you had a go at me for it, I now live here and i'm glad i chose Calis, because it's so laid back, I live less than 150 mtrs of 3 bars and i have no trouble sleeping, and one of them is open til all hours, i'm an old codger, 60 next and the music doesn't bother me one bit. yes Blackpool ish it might be at night... but fortunately we can avoid it,as I said , there are quiet backwaters, one just merely goes elsewhere around the village where its not `in your face`  and where our apt is , is lovely and quiet at night, and thats the most important bit for us.  As for your  comparasons with Callis, and your `gloating`..... well sorry but Hisaronu still wins hands down...its more scenic the immediate area
We have a beautiful forest a 3 minute walk away, and a  mountainous backdrop to die for  !!
( Callis is massive, flat, and featureless ) we dont have a beach, but then we have the beautiful Olu Deniz beach  8 minutes away by Dolmus... the Callis beach  is  dirty and the sea  there  is too dangerous to swim in.
We  are as close to Fethiye as you are in Callis  almost, so our location  in Hisaranu is superior. Like a lot of people have said and its true... the best bit about Callis  is  the   journey there on  the water  taxi... but  hurry  back.
Sorry...  but  dont start me on that  `Callis is better than Hisaranu`  bit again...  you can keep your Callis... I still have no regrets  about where we are soon to live.

And the real good news is that someone bought the Jandarma a decibel-o-meter. They can now be found wandering up and down the main street at 0000 hours making sure that no-one is exceeding the recommended noise levels and that all clubs, discos etc playing music do it behind closed doors. The effect has been phenomenal. My first year at Hisaronu the sound systems were still pumping out when the muezzin did his morning call. Talk about distress. Now, the whole village has calmed down. I don't do the Calis v Hisaronu thing, each to his own etc. and I think we should encourage people to come for the bay of Fethiye area, rather than a specific resort but I would echo Sleuths comments, in the daytime, there's more to do in and around Hisaronu and you can spend all week there in good bars and restaurants off the main drag and only have to go on to bar street to find an ATM - or Azda
