Hi Monty - one other thing to consider is how you will get your income when you live there. Make sure you are in for the long haul before going for the Lira high interest accounts because if you change your mind later on you could find the exchange rate has tumbled and you could lose a fortune.

Lots to consider but I would rent first so that you can get a real feel for living there and once you get to know the locals you might find buying is much easier and less costly.

And my last piece of advice - don't buy off a barman who has a cousin with a house for sale - recepie for disaster!

Hi Monty !  What a great position to be in !  Only you will know the answer, once you have sampled a few months of what 'retired life' may be like.  We would love to move out permanent, but have children to see through education first.  You don't have that restriction - so go with your heart and have fun !!  Good luck (oh ! and welcome to the forum by the way !!!).

We are new members of the forum but not new to Calis area.  We have holidayed there for 12 years and have finally taken the plunge and bought this year.  Our duplex should be ready in December.

We wish we had done this years ago - we have taken all our amily and friends there over the last few years and every single one of them has fallen in love with the place.  

If this is what you want - take the bull by the horns and go for it!!

I have to advise you to go for it as i'm doing the same.
Only a little older than you but a step further, as i have a buyer for my house and am looking to be in Calis for October.
I'm terrified and excited at the same time, but have no doubts that this is the right move for me.  I don't know your situation, but if you put it off now you may never do it.  What do you really have to lose?

Hi Richard. Take this advice: don't buy in advance of your retirement. Take your retirement and then come out here and rent. There are a real glut of properties at the moment (more builders than buyers) and plenty of places to rent. Do this for 3-6 months to see if it really is right for you and at the same time check out all the areas. If you are not sure - dont feel pressured to buy as prices are much the same (if not slightly lower!) than a year ago.

If you could afford it, you could sell your home in England, then buy a smaller one from the money before you make the move, then if all else fails you still have your own bolthole in England which you could be renting out while you are in Turkey, that way all sides are covered.Hope it works out for you.

Take the risk if you are seeking and searching for a new expereince.
Don't do it to make money. Nothing is forever. That said rent first for at least 6 months and include a winter month as well. You can  buy a villa in Calis easliy for £100,000 grand and an apartment for half that amount.  If you have the capital buy a flat/small house somewhere in the UK as a bolt hole and rent it out.
