Hello
We are going to Calis in less than 4 weeks and have never been to Turkey before.
Just wondered if anyone can give us any useful info regarding the area?
Thanks :-\

Hi forestfan, welcome to the forum!

I remember my first time in Turkey - there's just so much to see and do and not enough time. Many helpful people will be glad to help with your questions and there's a wealth of info you will find by just browsing through sections of the forum. Have a great time and don't be afraid to ask any questions.

Hi forestfan, welcome to the forum, my first 2 times to Turkey were in Kusadasi, then Icmeler, Bitez, then Ovacik, before i found a place i wanted to be, CALIS, as cef says it's addictive, and you can't help enjoying yourself, but watch yourself,it can be very expensive, cos you finish up buying a place to live, lol. Hi Forestfan,

If you are able (and have never done it before) then you must go scuba diving whilst there.  There are many diving centres, but the one I've used is "European Diving Centre".  Look them up on the net and book your day out before you leave blighty.  It'll be cheaper then arranging through some agency or your holiday rep.
Go to an open Market - and HAGGLE!
If you're a fella, then don't get your hair cut before you go and don't shave.  Once you have checked in - go to the barbers for the full hair cut, shave and ear-hair burning experience!
Take the Dolmus whenever possible.
Go to the Fish Market - pick a fish and take a seat whilst it is cooked and served.
Change your currency in Fethiye - not England.  Go to a bank for the better rates.
Take Marmite.  Mozzies tend not to eat you if you have eaten it!
Go to the mud baths.
Have a turkish bath (there's a good one right in Calis)
Zebra-crossings are an optical illusion...you may see them, but the motorists don't!
Trust the locals.  If they make a recommendation - go with it.
Explore the bars/restaraunts which are off the beaten track.....try to hunt them down.  Not only are the prices even lower then Calis, but you will be welcomed just as warmly.

That'll get you going I think.

Glen
