just an observation for anybody interested, round about this time of year and normally the last week in october, during the very clear atmosphere we are getting  at the moment you can see rhodos island from calis beach kordon. its located between the two outer headlands and can be seen best at sunset, being a nautical type i checked this out on the chart and what you are actually seeing seeing are the mountains in the south of the island which are 55 nautical miles away.

Thank the lord for someone who thinks this - I am 100% sure this is true, Yetkin is 100% sure I am talking rubbish.

It was there at sunset on Monday, very clear indeed.

There have been reports in Rhodesian newspapers of people living in the southern mountains reporting distant sightings of the lights of Calis Beach. Or possibly not.

I agree with yetkin Rhodes is to far and not  high enough its nearly 60 miles away ,i think what you can see from calis is kojo one of the group of islands off of gocek they are about 25 miles by sea according to google earth .you just don't have the height in calis its sea level ,i think it works out 10 ft per mile ask a fisherman.

Hubby reckons the maximum you can see at sea level is 26 miles because of the curvature of the earth but if the mountains were high enough you might get a peek of the peaks!

right for all you disbelievers, proof here..nearest point to rhodos form calis taken of admiralty chart is 44 nautical miles which is 50.67 land miles.
for example mount attayros on rhodos is 1,215 meters high.
taken from the extreme range tables in norries nautical book
at a height of eye of 10 ft above sea level it would be possible to see 1,215meters height from 451 miles away.(if the atmosphere was clear enough of course)
and this is not taking into account refraction.!
am willing to take on a bet that what you see is rhodos, winnings go to local charity..

Has anybody got a decent enough camera to capture the evidence?
