Well the 6 months were up and it was not worth the cost and time of taking the old Mazda back to the UK.

Off we went to Dalaman Gumruk (Customs) today arriving at 2.25pm.
Managed to make ourselves understood and after handing in the Customs entry form we received on arrival, the log book and my passport we sat and waited. A little while later I signed a form waiving my rights to the car. 45 mins later after many people looking at the papers and a PC the main man came in, took us to look over the car, record the chassis etc etc.
Then 15 mins later I got my passport back with the car removed and I drove it into the compound

and left the airport

.
All in all, only 1hr 30 mins, painless, no money required & no real Turkish language skills needed.
Did not even need to use my translator who was on standby at the end of his phone.
Guess it was our lucky day.
