I think a good one can appear pretty cool, I do despair of the pathetic attempts people make to try and wangle a 'personal' number plate from a load of rubbish.
Here is just one example from page 1 on Ebay:
"LO54 YOU private number plate - LOOKS LIKE 'LOSE YOU'!"
No it doesn't!
or
"ALEX Cherished Private Number Plate Registration" - number is actually A9 EXW [
