For the benefit of who?

With news of profits of over half a billion pounds and 15% price rises,British Gas is a successful company,but can profits of this size ever be justifiable?Are the regulatory bodies toothless?Is Britain being run for the benefit of shareholders and not for the tax paying citizens?
