Boat trips

We had a good day on Tom's boat, Jerry is very popular and quite suave and debonair but his popularity appears to have made him very pricey nowadays.

My minute guide to booking a boat for a private day out is: Go to the harbour in Fethiye, at about 10:30 on the morning you want to go, if they are still in the harbour they ain't going nowhere as things stand, so beat them down on price. Get two boats close to each other and play one off against the other (and make sure both captains can hear your conversation with the other). Finally, if you like a drink or two, confirm the prices for anything and everything you may be buying, before shaking hands on a deal.

 :)

Do you the boats do the same trip or are there different ones? If so, which one is the best?  Looking for nice relaxing day, music but not loud, good food, and a bit of banter with the guys and hopefully not a crowded boat usually around 25-30 people is just about right!

We arrived back from Calis last Thursday (wish we were still there!) and always try to have a boat trip wherever we are in Turkey.  This time we booked the Gocek Market trip at the place by the water taxis in Calis.  Got picked up from hotel and taken to Fethiye to excellent boat, quite small but very comfortable and suited us down to the ground.  Took about an hour an a half to get to Gocek just lazing on the deck and having a drink, plus we had lunch included.  We chose fish and cannot begin to tell you how good it was, washed down with a beer and glass of wine!  You get a couple of hours in Gocek which is a lovely place to wander around.  You don't have to go to the market if you don't want but it's quite small and very well spread out so worth a look.  Back on the boat we sailed out of Gocek and stopped just off Gocek Island for an hour for swimming and generally doing nothing much but chatting to everyone else on boat. (Favourite music seems to be 'Theme from Titanic!)  All this for 30 lira each which we found excellent value for money.  Will probably do it again next time in Calis (hopefully soon!)

We always use Jerry, fantastic day out and wonderful food, but we found that he is so popular that the trips are getting over crowded, I couldnt even get a seat last time out and it was very uncomfortable and we kept stopping for fishing which was great as you can imagine:(

Living in Calis a group of friends try to do a boat trip once a month  during summer and have found the boat  "Tanem" from the water taxis by the bridge to be excellent. Yasher and staff very friendly and food cooked by his sister is far superior to other  boats we have  tried. We go to several different bays during the day and if we dont like one he just takes us to another. He speaks perfect english too

Went on a boat trip from Calis (from the water taxi area) last summer.  £10 each including lunch, or, if you have 6 or more people, you can pay £70 and have the boat to yourselves.  There were six of us, so we paid the £70.  It was a really lovely day out - nice music, lovely food and scenery, lots of swimming, tarzan swings etc (!).  Would really recommend it - very relaxing. (Spent a fortune of cold drinks though, so check out the prices first.)

You have to be careful when choosing a boat from the Calis water taxi area, as we found out a few years back. We took a boat as a private party and the skipper, who was a portly chap to say the least seemed good fun, but had next to no English. After flying around the bay in various directions, he anchored up at Red Island, stripped off to his more than XL boxer shorts and headed for the shore. We weren't sure what he was doing, he was collecting rocks into a pile. Then it dawned on us, he had a waterproof bag with him and was going to use the rocks to fashion a rather basic barbeque. As he bent down to light it, his testicles fell out of the leg of his boxer shorts, putting us right off the chicken pieces he had brought for lunch.

As I said, you have to be careful with the Calis Water Taxi guys  ;)

Lol Scunner!  It sounds almost as much fun as the boat trip we went on!  No, to be fair, we had a great day, and were obviously lucky with the boat we used (recommended to us by the management company used by the people whose apartment we were renting at the time.)  The captain spoke brilliant english - we were obviously very lucky not to end up with the man with big testicles!!!!  (Nice to meet you and Mrs S, and Yetkin the other day, by the way.)

Agree there, the last one had a radio for music but not for emergencies or the weather forecast,
