High street sales in the UK rose by 3.4% over previous month in May. One of the biggest rises was a massive 9.2% rise in spending on clothing & footware. [Stoop will remember that the sozzled hacks who try to pass themselves as journalists at the Daily Mail told us that buying any of these was "inessential"!]. Last weekend I noted that I had to divert my trip to the centre of Bristol because of the quarter mile traffic jam of cars (using up the fuel they can't afford) queuing in order to get to IKEA (to buy stuff they don't need). Never mind, the Daily Mail headlines will probably be - British consumers sink deeper into economic misery.
