Thanks Calis and Goodbye
« on: December 05, 2008, 20:01:29 PM »
Just over a year ago we decided that we had seen and done pretty much all we wanted to do as expats living in Turkey and that we wanted to return to the UK - well, now we have. We told a handful of our trusted friends (there aren't many there) and started our plans. Today is our first day back in the UK, and I can honestly say that even with the -1C temperature, we are as excited to be here as we were the first day we arrived in Calis  :)

I just wanted to say, with the exception of a couple of individuals with mental health problems or personality disorders, our association with Calis and Fethiye has allowed us the pleasure of meeting literally hundreds of great people we would never have possibly met. Sometimes it's easy to forget that it was Calis that introduced us to certain people, it seems like we have known them for decades.

I'm also posting to preempt the rumours that our every turn has generated (I've been deported 5 times that I've heard of  :) ) - so, as I look forward very much to hearing the soap opera as a viewer rather than a character, I thought I could be useful by offering a list of possible reasons for going, take your pick:

1. I was bankrupt and had to leave.

2. I upset the wrong people and had to go.

3. I was deported for selling illegal properties

4. I owed all the bars huge bills, and I couldn't pay.

5. I was the subject of an alien abduction in Scarlett Bar

6. I am Lord Lucan

7. The mafia are after us

Good luck with that.

To the many superb people we met, see you soon (we're already planning our next visit). I hope with CBF and the charity things over the years that I made a small difference. If you don't think that, I couldn't give a toss anyway  8)

To the minority who tried to spoil our lives and the lives of our kids with their incessant rumourmongering and smearing of us to anyone who would listen, I have a small message...

HAHAHAHA You didn't, we had a ball

See you all soon I hope :D

Wow - this is a suprise - you really know how to keep a secret!

Anyway good luck to you and your family - you have certainly helped a lot of people - not least by this terrific site providing us / them with the information they needed to "buy their dream".

All the best - Ian & Gill x

Ps No truth in the rumour you are going to take on the Luton job??  ;)

Hiya Keith

Glad you arrived safely back into the UK. I bet you have your wooly jumper on now.

I would personally like to thank you for starting the forum, it has created the Calis Ceach community we all know and love today and has provided me with countless hours of enjoyment, interest and fun, may it continue.

I would like to thank you for bringing together many of us with a multitude of CBF events that you have organised over the years.

For starting the charity events that have shown the local community that the ex pats and holiday makers care a little more than just about the price of a beer.

For helping so many people realise their 'place in the sun' dream and helping them to buy with a lot more security than we had when we bought our properties.

And finally, thanks for being a good mate.

YOU HAVE MADE A MASSIVE AND POSITIVE DIFFERENCE TO THIS LITTLE PART OF TURKEY.

Hope the next episode of the soap opera delivers Steph, the girls and yourself the happiness you deserve.

George & Chris
