Grafitti

A new notice has been put up in my local:

If you've nothing good to say about someone :
: you've come to the right place.

It got me thinking about my favourite sayings specifically in the format of graffiti.

The first couple are things scrawled under official signs. Number one comes from the anonymity of folklore and may have been seen in any high street in the UK:

BILL POSTERS WILL BE PROSECUTED

Bill Posters is innocent

The second I observed many years ago at a railway station (perhaps Paddington) in The Great Wen (London):

TRAINS FOR THE CONTINENT

and rubber pants for the incontinent

The third I saw in a Gents in a UK university and found perplexing:

Hegel don't bother me

I thought this could mean four quite different things depending on where you put the emphasis in saying it.

_____A. Hegel don't bother me. Implying that whilst other philosophers might be difficult to understand, the writer finds Hegel quite simple and straightforward.

_____B. Hegel don't bother me. Implying an instruction to the philosopher to desist from annoying the writer.

_____C. Hegel don't bother me. Implying perhaps a minor irritation created by the philosopher but nothing that might be regarded by the writer as a "bother".

_____D. Hegel don't bother me. Implying a macho assertion of confidence that the philosopher might bother weaker folk but the writer is not one of those.

I worried away at this problem for a couple of weeks before someone provided me with a much simpler explanation. Which is:

_____E. ::::::::::::::

OK you give the answer (I am expecting MikeA and SteveB to be first in on this one).

Or supply your own favourite graffiti.

Sorry mods but without the (inserted) underlining it didn't make sense.

Blimey, you can edit your first posts without them jumping to the top of the board.
