Jacqui & Bluwise  -  The meal I had was the chicken casserole - which had all good ingredients in but I just felt the sauce was bland and thin, for me, it just needed a bit more time to thicken and caramalise to bring out all the lovely flavours of the peppers and tomatoes etc.   So this might be put down to wrong choice but nothing wrong with the food.   My husband had the liver kebab, which unfortunately contained four big chunks of solid fat  which you do not expect to find with liver  - and as the lighting (by the beautiful lamps) is quite low, he did not realise (until too late) and actually ate of chunk of fat. It was this meal that he was really disappointed in. However the majority of people going to this restaurant are obviously very happy and enjoy their meals so we accept we are the rare exception.

In fairness many restaurants serve liver kebap with alternate chunks of fat - don't ask me why - and it seems very popular with the locals! Not for me either but not evidence of poor quality.

Christie, this is useful information for us. I had already spoken to Dogan about the low lighting in parts of the garden and next year there will be improved lighting in areas of the garden that would benefit from more light.

The chicken casserole is by far one of our most popular meals and we can only apologise if the sauce was thinner than it should have been.

Now the liver shish... both the liver and the lamb shish are cooked and served with "chunks of fat".

This is the way that it is cooked in Hatay and there is a simple reason for this. The fat juices bring out the flavours of the meat; some will say that is what gives the meat its taste and it also serves to keep the meat moist during the cooking process.

I too was once caught out with this on my first trip to Antakya. I asked what I was eating with my lamb and even though I was enjoying the taste as soon as I knew what it was I couldn't get it out of my mouth fast enough much to every ones amusement.

Some people love and eat the fat and they are not all from Hatay either, and others clearly don't. If the lighting was better then your husband would have seen the fat and could have made an informed decision before popping it into his mouth.

Thanks for the more detailed feedback.

Unfortunately we had the worse meal we have ever had in Turkey.
I'm not defending nor attacking either party here, just wanting to give my opinion!

The above statement has now had an open & honest answer from Nichola as to why the dishes did not suit Christie & her husband so is that statement still correct or will you (Christie) review the wording now you understand how the dishes are prepared & served?

I've watched this topic with great interest as my 1 experience of Mozaic was 100% positive & was hoping it was more of a taste dislike than bad food served, although I know even the best can get it wrong sometimes.

Imho this situation would have been the perfect opportunity to request some guidance from the staff "there & then" which would have been a better outcome for all concerned.

funny isn't it....personally, I would hate a lamb kebab without the additional fat content - it adds so much to the flavour and texture. mmmm [^]

Just had our first visit , me and my wife both had a wrap as a "little" snack which was excellent . Unfortunately we had a big storm and were forced! To stay for a sweet and a couple more Efes (these things are sent to try us) Lovely people . Give it a go ! Thank you, and I hope to get stranded there again. Now back at Oykun  and am again stranded at the bar by the weather. Oh dear what a shame , never mind.

We had been waiting for some time to try the Mozaik and were disappointed to find it closed on its winter break when we arrived in March, on hearing the restaurant had reopened and the sun was out and the sky was blue today, we decided to visit for lunch. Nichola handed us the menus and explained that there were some new dishes on this year, we particularly liked the description written about each and every dish on the menu and accompaying picture ( all but one shot by Nichola) I could not help thinking that if the food tasted as good as it looked and was how it was described, then this might be a bit special. It certainly was. I did something I can't ever remember doing, I made a conscious effort to order a vegetarian main course, their vegetable sauté and it was absolutely delicious, Chris had a casserole which was also excellent. We shared a desert, which contained walnuts, cinnamon and ice cream which was also lovely and then concluded with a coffee and another first for me, mint tea which were both on the house.

Nichola told us they are planning a grand reopening afternoon where they cook every dish on the menu and so you get to taste everything they do, we have put our names down and really looking forward to that.

I'm sure we will become regulars there from now on, whether it be for a meal or just a snack ( they do a nice wrap and also coffee with special walnut biscuits)

Really enjoyed it today and hope to see other forum members there soon.
