Visiting Uzumlu
« on: July 11, 2009, 16:26:34 PM »
We have never been to Uzumlu, often thought about it.  We know the road to Uzumlu is of the Gunlukbasi Road, but there does not seem to be a signpost.   Just where is the turnoff?
Also recommendations for what to see do, and where to eat.
Thanks.

One tip - if you are going by dolmus then go to the dolmus station in Fethiye as we waited on the corner in Gunlukbasi for ages the other year. We were then told the dolmus only leaves Fethiye when it's got enough passengers.  Not good in 90 deg heat.

Can't comment on Uzumlu too much as we were visiting friends and did not see much of the village.

Jacqui, if you head out of Calis, eventually you get the choice to turn left to Dalaman, or right to Antalya. Take the road toward Antalya, and after about 2 or 3 miles you will see a sign to turn left to Yesiluzumlu. Follow that road up the mountain, and you will arrive in Uzumlu - easy, even I could find it and June 09 was the first time I have driven in Turkey!

I thought it translates as "green grape with "

yesil - green, uzum - grape, lu -with.

I went last week, thought it was really pretty, stopped for a drink in the wine house and bought a scarf from an old lady who was weaving- fascinating to watch and a nice addition to my collection!:D

We used our Tom Tom Sat Nav, we bouught it in January and after many problems we negotiated the maps of Turkey so knowing we were hiring a car we took the sat nav with us. So funny as most of the time the screen was just blank with a car sat in the middle of it. Glad the maps were free!
