all right some comments from a local guy.....i am a scuba diver and love sharks and has never seen a shark underwater even i dived every possible place that i could see them......on the other hand yes we do have sharks in turkey like there is a shark in 7 seas of the world. you possibly could have seen one shark but that is always very rare to see one.
i became 29 last monday and in my long long long life only seen 3 sharks around fethiye when i was fishing.
dont worry about sharks, they wont attack you as we dont have the dangerous ones around turkey...

there was a 5 metre 700 kilo shark caught in fethiye gulf area in the spring this year, caught by local fishermen and displayed in the fish market before being taken of to izmir i think.

the most dangerous fish arround at the moment i think is a veriety of puffer fish known locally as balloon fish. i have caught a few of them now this year and last.arround the 2 kilo mark.
they are not native to the med and are coming up from the indian ocean. apparently due to water temp getting warmer. when i caught a few last year i wasnt sure of identification and took them to the fish market and was told in no uncertain terms that if you eat them ur dead! further research i did on the internet said their toxin is 30,ooo times stronger than cyanide and on average 300 people a year in japan die from them due to souchi chefs getting it wrong.
