Just out of interest we have an outside light that I used to put 60w candle bulbs in. They blew about every one - two months (we leave it on all night). I managed to find a long life, low consumption one that fit (after many years of looking) and after 12 months it's still going strong. Saved me a fortune already and that doesn't include the electric. :)

I have found there seems to be 2 colours of low energy bulb.  One gives a stark harsh greyish blue light and the other is a warmer light.  I am happy with that warmer light and it looks OK with my Tiffany lights.   But I think they are over optimistic when they say that a certain wattage low energy bulb is the equivalent of a certain wattage traditional bulb, because they clearly are not as bright as claimed.
