Power cuts in UK

In our  country area of Scotland we are used to power cuts.. At least in Turkey you have warm weather and power cuts we had 48 hours of no power one Christmas week our neighbours up the hill, whose road was snowed up were without power for 5 days. It cost them £2,000 as their water pump from their well froze up and cracked, so they had no water supply to their house and all their food rotted in their freezer.  This was a family of six including 4 children.  The electric board decided that as their road was covered in snow, they would wait until the snow cleared!!   This is the reason we bought our own generator.  We also now have a skid steer* (*vehicle with a bucket front to clear road).  You softies in Turkey think yourself lucky.
