I actually do agree with you Jay, but it's important that people get a flavour of Calis from CBF, from their first 5 minutes browsing. Over 4 pages here we collectively took a tale and picked it's bones clean. Of course those of us who know Calis are sure of how we fondly hold the place, and can disect these posts, but I wonder how many people considering Calis or Turkey for the first time (and this years was just such a year with the euro/£ value) get past the page of subject title page? How many "Another Attempted Abduction" or "ATM Scam" titles do you need in a list before you head for Google and search for holidays in Tunisia or somewhere else?

It's those people that we are trying to bore to death with our heartwarming stories of Calis, and I doubt many of them are even getting past the subjects page. We can pull dodgy stories to pieces because we know it's unlikely, but they won't, they're already lost to some other destination.

Once again, we're not trying to make Calis sound like paradise on Earth, but we are trying to make CBF reflect exactly the place it is, and it's nothing like the first impression some people must be getting here lately.

You mean those that get past the Hotel Diarrhoea Turkey or Hotel Compensation Turkey adverts at the top of the page ?

I have never been to Turkey so i would be in the catigory of newbie but I have traveled around abit.  I really think that you would have to have lived in a isolation bubble not to realise that what happens there is universal all over the world and not just there.  I have read them and answered some of them but it has not made my desire to visit any less, what it does highlight is how gulable, nieve and irrisponsible some people are both posters and victims, for putting or getting yourself into a situation where you become vulneralbe enough.

If people are stupid enough to believe everything they read then to be honest I think the place is better off without them because they are the ones that will be future victims, let them be victims somewhere else at least the posts will be going onto someother forum.

I am really looking forward to coming over and testing the Turkish hospitality.

Unfortunately the majority of people are taken in by what they read, that is a fact.  People will use this forum and others to get a flavour of what a place is like and a lot of those will do that before booking or making any final decision on where they are going.

I agree 100% with Scunner, if this or any forum about any potential holiday destination is full of threads detailing rape, theft, muggings, break ins etc etc, it will put people off visiting.  Regretably that is a fact, especially if you have kids to consider.

That does not mean that people shouldn't post threads about these things if they have happened but I agree with what some of the other regular contributors to this forum have said and there should be a set of rules if you like about posting these things.  You should only post such things if you have first hand experience of the event, it happened to you or someone you were with and it should have been reported to the authorities.  If not then you shouldn't be posting it, as it is only hearsay.

I think that those that look after this site like Scunner should set out their rules on things like this and if they aren't met then the thread should be deleted.

I was told about this site by the lady who we are renting our apartment from.  To be honest we had never been keen on coming to Turkey, for various reasons.  We hired her caravan in Blackpool last year when I wasn't allowed to fly, she told us about her apartment in Calis and knowing we weren't keen told me to check out this site, rather than take her word for it on what 'a great place' Calis is.  I did and as a result of what I found, we decided to try Turkey and booked her apartment for our forthcoming holiday in October, which we are so looking forward to.  

Now I have the intelligence to put things in perspective and take a balanced view on things as do a lot of people.  However there are also a lot of people who look at what they read and would say, "sod that, we aren't going there!" because they go by first impressions, which are definitive to them.

I think that there is a definate need now for clear guidelines, or rules if you prefer on what people post to stop 'damage' being done to the reputation of Calis beach and Turkey.  

I stress again that this doesn't mean that these things should not be  reported but they should only be reported by those involved and reported as hearsay, or third, fourth and fifth hand.

i live in bolton lancs & judging by the number of murders, rapes, assaults, arson attacks that really have happened here, it's a wonder anyone still lives here, never minds visits!turkey is a great place, but like everywhere has some problems,  except maybe the moon!!! [:X][:X][:X]

It's clear that the amount of subjects we post about assaults, burglaries etc can have a negative and a positive side to people reading this forum for the first time.

On one hand it can scare and put off people from visiting

However, it gives you a realistic view that it's not a magical land where nothing bad happens.

It's all about common sense and how open minded you are really.

But let me ask you a question. How many times on your holiday to Calis did you see anything like that?

It's about reflecting what being in Calis is about and keeping things in perspective. I'm not having a go at you TW, not one bit - I'd be interested to hear if the amount of bad things you saw happen in Calis reflects the general overview people will take from this forum. I was there for 17 days and the number of bad things I saw happen was around 0.

Actually
When we lived in Jakarta and visited Bali, our card was scammed. Fortunately I had a statemant quit quickly and stopped the card.
First they used it for a few meals in Hartford and then used it on internet gambling. A 100 pound a time,but they only used 1 pound to gamble they cash in the rest.
They got nearly 7000 pounds in total.

I got it all back but in drips and drabs over a six month period.
Since then I very rarely use a card in a shop or restaurant.

And, by the way, it's true.

How about a section at the bottom of the Forum,with a title such as 'other news' or 'reports of offences' or 'stay alert'.put any reports of alleged offences in this section.Hopefully new readers would get a more balanced view of Calis/Turkey before getting down to this section,but at the same time the Forum could'nt be accused of glossing over the rough bits.
