Children Flying Alone
« on: September 21, 2009, 17:47:08 PM »
Does anyone know at what age a child can fly alone?  My daughter now has to fly to Turkey with us in October, as we are unable to leave her at home, as originally planned.

We can get her on our flight going out to Dalaman, but, despite my best efforts (and Ron's!!) the flight appears to be full for the return journey.  Does anyone know if we are we able to put her on an earlier flight (maybe the day before).  We can take her to Dalaman and arrange for her to be met at the UK end by a relative.  She is 14 and quite sensible.  I could keep her luggage and bring it back with us to make it a bit easier for her.

Someone told me that I can arrange an escorted journey for her?  Has anyone else used this service out of Dalaman?

Our other (probably easier) option if we can get a flight on the same day and to the same airport - Manchester - is to put hubby's return flight in her name, and she can travel with me, whilst he travels on a different flight alone.   :)

I think the policy of most airlines is 16 years old to fly alone

I believe Cyprus Turkish airlines provide a service for this. Never used it myself but worth checking out.

Julie,
quite a few  airlines do allow 14 yrs and over to travel alone subject to various conditions, easy jet do for  example see their web page.
you need to check with the airline on the phone to obtain conditions.

go on to  google Travelocity web site have  info  likewise go google put in unaccompanied minors lots of info there.

Thanks so much to you all.  You've all been so helpful.  :)

Bee, have emailed you.   :) ;)[:o)]

Ron - you're a star, as usual!  Have emailed you too!   :):D ;)  The Birmingham flight the day before is a good option.  Need to chat to hubby when he gets in from work to make sure he's happy with her travelling alone.  I personally think she's sensible enough as long as she's met off the flight at the UK end.

Thanks again for all the suggestions/help.   :)

Karen, have just noticed your reply - will email you now.   :)

Any offers of babysitting (or teen-sitting!) for a week also gratefully received!   :o :-\[:o)]
