On Sky news this morning, John Barnes & Jason McAteer have been sacked. A terrible start to the season has finally caught up with them. Bring back Aldo!!!

John Barnes was a great footballer, but seems to be a rubbish Manager....Celtic springs to mind.  How many great Footballers have gone on to be great Managers, with a few exceptions most of the famous Managers seemed to have been minnows in the football world.

Looking at the Premiership, there are just two managers who I would consider were 'great' footballers. Mark Hughes, propped up in 4th with squillions of pounds to use, and in second bottom position with no pounds to spend Gianfranco Zola. I'm not sure whether Steve Bruce and Martin O'Neill were 'great', good though they were  :)

Top British footballers generally don't make championship winning managers. The last Brit to have played for his country to manage a Division 1/Premier League championship winning team was Kenny Dalglish in 94/95 and I may be wrong but believe the last man capped by England who managed a team to this was Brian Clough 31 years ago - who only managed 2 full England caps.

So no, great footballers don't generally make great managers  :)
