Sabihe Gokce Airport and Easyjet/Pegasus Airlines
« on: November 29, 2009, 18:28:55 PM »
The new terminal at Sabihe Gokce is really impressive, very modern, light and airy. There are plenty of toilets and cafes and it is well signposted. Trolleys about for luggage. Bit of a scrum at the domestic terminal departure gates though. Ankara and Dalaman passengers left the same gate at the same time!

Has anyone travelled between this airport and Fethiye on a bus? I wondered what the journey is like on one of the Kamil Koc buses.Flew Pegasus for this journey which was ok.

i travelled from fethiye to the airport by bus, takes about 12 hours, very comfortable coaches but i dont think i will do it again..  internal flights now there are very cheap...
probably a bit of a problem when you arrive there finding a service bus that takes you to the pick up point for the main coach.

Thank you for the information about the bus Stuart.I agree with you that flying is a better option.

Paid nearly six lira for a cheese and salad roll, the roll  was a brown Turkish bread which I enjoyed, coffee was about five lira.A peice of raspberry cheese cake was nine lira and chi about five. Water was one lira at the outlet I ate in. The Burgher King meals were between fifteen to seventeen.I met quite a few British people on the flight into Sabihe Gokce who have heard about the prices in the airports and brought their own food.

The restaurants were very comfortable places to sit and I did not feel that I had to rush so sat in them for quite a while and read my book.

Having booked Pegasus return flights via Istanbul in January for the first time, I was hopeing that you wouldnt have to change planes or touch your luggage in the airport at Istanbul when booking the Dalaman - Stanstead run,as both flights are with the same company and the flight turn around time is less than an hour. However, I have herd that this is not the case and that the allocated time between fights is insufficient resulting in the planes frewuently being delayed!! You actually have to leave the airport to go from the Domestic to the International departure terminal. Can anyone who has done the journey with Pegasus shed any light on this. Our friends, who relayed this information to us recently, also had their luggage lost on their return journey to Dalaman. They were able to colect some 4 days later!!!

I flew Easyjet from Istanbul return so am not sure what happens when you are using Pegasus for the complete journey. The domestic and international terminals are easy to move between at Sabihe Gokce though. The new terminal only opened for use a few weeks ago and has lifts and escalators to take you through the building to whichever one you are making for. There were luggage trolleys scattered about too. I travelled in November though so it may not be so easy in the summer season.
On the journey out to England the luggage was unloaded and I picked it up from the carousel. The only thing is that you have to be ready to move between carousels, the luggage was coming along on two separate carousels, just happened to spot my suitcase on the one behind me. :DThere were no delays on this particular journey.

I did this journey about 6 weeks ago and it was a nightmare from start to finish and I can say with confidence that pegasus airways could not organise a wee up in a pub.
My journey started with my arrival at dalaman about 5am off i trot the the que for check im third in line an hour later i am still third in line all the staff were around one mobile phone truing to get some kind of go ahead from Istanbul after standing for so long i grabbed one of the staff and said this flight is not going to take off is it? to which he replied dont worry it will but i just knew it was not going to happen when i finally got to check in my luggage ticket looked like a ticket you get for a service wash at the launderette:( and I just thought oh god my luggage is not gonna make it and most otheres thought the same [|)] and so the nightmare began!! of we went to departure point and yes no plane and a delay of an hour so there was no way we were gonna make the connecting flight at istanbul after a twenty min wait we were told no plane today  :o well you can imagine alot of people were not happy i helped translate for a few people and pegasus did offer to put them up in hotels they offered me a hotel i said no thanks im going home to my own place which was fine until very unfriendly police woman comes along and says you cannot leave the airport until the flight landing time at Istanbul as you are asecurity risk i jus thought oh ____!! here we go agian by this time im tired my fault stayed up all night and just gettina teeny weeny bit annoyed so in my politest Turkish I ask the nice lady[:(!] why? she says cause of your luggage you are a security risk well at that ID HAD IT  :o I threw my bags at her feet on the floor and said ok no problem you have em keep the bloody bags im going out for a cig and then im going home  :o to hence i was ushered to a back stair case so im thinking ok is this the staircase that leads to the torture chamber or what and I completely lost it :( i said ok what is going on and agian she came up with the security risk crap I told her listen my bags have been through xray machines all bloody morning if they were a risk they would not of gone though would they to which she looks at me and says we have to protect Turkey I picked up my handbag took out my Turkish Id card and in my very best Turkish said im Turkish why would I want to do anything bad to Turkey :Dand yes you got it she turns round to em and say ok darling off you go then livid is not the word but i did not wait to be told twice i just legged it outside and had a cig.

Back into the airport to the pegasus desk to re arrange ticket they said you can fly tomorrow from istanbul to gatwick great i said what time does the flight leave from Dalaman oh there isnt one he says by this time im irrate and i said listen to me im gonna say this once and once only while stabbinf my finger on his desk i need to fly from dalamn to istanbul then on to gatwick like my tickety says and shoves it in his face when is the next flight that you have 4 days later ok fine just book me on it and just let me get out of here which he finally did and poffered me cake and tea at the same time now if hed offered me a jd and coke i would of had it:D he told me this happens quite frequently on this route so I guess the moral of this story for the lady who asked the question is well what will be we be i guess i personally think they are crap but if i had no other choice I would use them. time wise from domestic to international is ok just when you have to go through xray machines at international point tell everyone your flight is leaving your late and you will get boarded no problem. and good luck hope its better than my trip. :)

We travelled home from Dalaman via Sabihe Gokce to Stansted
last Monday the dalaman leg was a doddle you need to arrive at
the domestic airport (the old one for those that can remember it)
1 hour before departure, check in was stress free and we had a 15
min delay this was due to fog in Istanbul.

The stress began at Sabihe Gokce we had only 35 mins to catch the
connecting plane to Stansted, The new airport has just opened this
month so in fairness it could just be teething problems, you do not
need to collect your luggage thankfully that is forwarded to your
next flight and you are issued with your boarding pass for the
Stansted flight in Dalaman, so you you head for the exit in to the
main part of the airport and turn to your right and take the
escalator to the first floor which is International departures you
then head for passport control to go through to the departure area,
this is where the problems arose, there were only 2 booths open by
now our flight was due to leave in fifteen minutes and the queue was
loooong when we explained to the guy at the front filtering the queue
through, thinking he would let us through we were sent to the back of
the queue. It appears that there are pegasus flights from Adana,
Dalaman, Bodrum, Izmir,Ercan and maybe more all arriveing around
9.30am and International flights leaving around 10.30 to Stansted
Basle, Amsterdam and two other destinations which escape me at the
moment so you can imagine the chaos cause you must have at least
1500 people panicing to get there connecting flights, once through
passport control we ignored the duty free and headed for the gate
which was down an escalator into a small area, for so many people,
and once again only 2 security posts open it almost an hour to get
through!, tempers were frayed as more people coming down the escalator
meant that we had to move accross to let them in hence we never
seemed to get closer to the security post, we eventually got onto
a bus out to the plane which was next to the one that we had arrived
from Dalaman on  Arrrrgh!!! The final straw was sitting on the plane
for a further 45mins presumably because they were sorting the luggage
out[:(!]Hence arriving at Stansted over 2 hours late.

For those of you that have booked, it does appear that flights are
held and if not accomadation is found for you, knowing this will
hopefully keep your stress levels down, also this is a very new
schedule and I sincerely hope that Pegasus can streamline it. Extra
security posts open would have alleviated the situation greatly

Good luck:D

When I was waiting to book in at Dalaman airport for my flight to Istanbul the lady in front had a very large bag with her. When it was on the scales it showed to be very heavy. Upon being told the price for excess baggage she unzipped the bag and started to unload loads and loads of grapefruit, oranges and other fruit. One of the airport staff ran off and brought a plastic dustbin over to hold it all. It was so tempting to take an apple but I may have been held as a security risk!:D
