Who remembers watching the coronation of the Queen? It was the reason that my family bought a TV. I was so young at the time that I thought it was fairies in a box. My dad built me a special chair to watch it.

Do you remember the Hogmany parties on New Years Eve with Andy (I cannot remember his surname)? :)

I remember the shilling in the slot gas meters, my old man was agas fitter and had a key to the meters, we often got a surprised look from the collector when he open the meter and found pound notes in the box, where father had changed money to get some shillings for the meter.

I remember people not entirely believing that you could record a programme even if you were out, and even 'popping back' half way through their night out to check if it had started :D

The coronation was before my time, but the new years specials were Andy Stewart I think, and don't forget Stanley Baxters Festive specials.[8)]

We had one for the electricity. My mum used to get a rebate and would go to Brentford Nylons to get blanket seconds ;) and sheet material

What about people getting done for having rusty meters where they had been making coins out of ice which melted inside the meter. Or did I dream that. Or was it on Only Fools and Horses :D

Our first "colour" tele was our old black and white tv with a stick on plastic panel, with 3 coloured stripes going across the screen  (honest!).  I can't remember the colours exactly, but think they were blue, orange and green, going downwards!  Great, when it was someones face on the whole screen - they were multicoloured!  :P

(My mum sent off for it - as some of our friends had colour tv's and us kids were jealous!)   :)

And what about phones?  We never had one in the house at all.  Our first phone was when we got married 28 years ago.  It was left by the previous owners of the house, and it was on incoming calls only, cos we couldn't afford another bill!   :o
