Linda, you're right there!!  We live in a small mid terraced property in the UK and it costs £133 a month for council tax and almost £40 a month for our water bill!!  :(

BUT, this is half the cost of what we used to pay for our previous home,  before we downsized to buy our lovely house in Turkey!!  Wish we were there now, and paying those inflated prices!!   :)

just off centre on this topic, I was wondering if as in the uk, pensioners in Turkey get any tax / council tax breaks etc, as and I am only guessing but if that is the case those pensioners who are aged enough and have residence may get smaller bills  or be excluded, any thoughts? or has anyone looked into this.

What happens to famiilies who do not have water from the Belediye but have their own well? How would they know about the council tax for rubbish. Lots of Turkish people have their own wells and some Brits too.

What does that mean about this rubbish tax though? I am sure the well water is fine to drink if it is filtered ok. Have you looked back at the original question?:D

Sorry, can,t actually tell how much the bills have gone up by as they are all different, I think it depends on how much water you use per year, as you say, still far cheaper than England and at least we get our bins emptied every day

Dougie, do you not use mains water for the shower and for flushing the toilet?

I am not a hundred per cent sure of this but someone has said that the tax is for the storm drains and the charge is worked out by the amount of frontage on your property. It is because work has been done digging up by the roads and laying pipes to prevent flooding, not rubbish in the bins. They may mean rubbish water.
I could be wrong though.

We have a choice of our own well or Belediye water and do not get water bills as we use  our well water which is filtered under the kitchen sink for cooking purposes and fit to drink if we want to.

I went to Belediyesi office in Hisaronu yesterday (thursday)and paid 6 water bills....4 were villa`s, 1 apartment and 1 communal pool bills...i asked what the charges were for and they said it was "rubbish bill".....BUT it will change next year the way it is to be collected...it will be INCLUDED in your water charge..water charge at moment is 1.34 tl per m3...this will increase to 1.38 tl per m3, as far as i can make out.

If you look on your present bill there are 3 different values as "extra`s"...Hismet 2 (service) 20.00
Hismet 3 (service)  3.60...these charges are the SAME for everyone...as far as i can see..they are with my 6 bills.
C.T.V  this varies depending on the amount of water used...but if you multiply THIS amount by 6.25 it will give you the original amount of water used ( the figure below your start..finish numbers at top of bill)

So there you have it....we ALL pay the same amount of "extra`s"...just depends on how much water you use...you use a lot..you pay a lot.

Hope this helps.
