This is NOT about Jon Venables
« on: March 04, 2010, 22:40:32 PM »
It interests me that sometimes there is not a discussion (heated or otherwise) on here about major news stories of the day.

It was the case with the Haiti earthquake I think and is, so far, the case with the Jon Venable's story.

Is this because members think that everyone will be of  the same opinion as themselves, or that it is something so disturbing that people, who have their own problems, do not want to discuss a dark and depressing topic, or is it for some other reason ?.

I sincerely hope this doesn't turn into a thread about the Venables case (someone can start a separate thread if they wish).  I'm more interested in why you think it has not been brought up to date.

I come to CBF to get away from the horrors of everyday life.

I am however in favour of the reverse, heaven taking over everyday life for example, I am rather grateful to the genious who has put up the large poster advertising Turkey ("Turkey fascinates" is the slogan), on route to Northampton rail station. It has given me the opportunity to dream everyday.:D

Oh no they have paperd over it with Vote Conservative posters [:(!]

At the moment there is not much to discuss because a criminal has "rights"
We the public and taxpayers are not allowed to be told how the tax payers money has failed to rehabilitate said criminal.

the squinty jack straw (he who signed britian rights away to europe) doesn't believe we are clever enought to make up our own minds, I notice today that MP are to get nearly a grand a year extra while many people who can't top up their pay with expenses are having to take pay cuts or at least freezes let alone those who have been laid off. not good timing.
with regards to Haiti and chile, while watching both peoples suffer their respected tragiedies, I noticed those poeple in chile doing somthing clearing up ( not just looting) but those pictures from Haiti the young men were just standing around doing nothing.

I Agree with Gorgeous_ Bird.
I Do have opinions on the big issues also know a million other places / sites to visit if I need to have my say.
Would hate CBF to turn into a political or religious debating forum.
Gordon Browns or Lance's views ? Give me Lance any day.

I have to disagree dreamon.

There have been very good debates on serious subjects on here in the past and I hope that there will be in the future.

In my opinion it's all part of the rich tapestry that is this Forum.

I totally agrre with you Highlander.
There have been many interesting debates on the forum over the years some serious others amusing.
Long may it continue.
I think that the lack of response to your original post is that the public, like me,are totally disillusioned by the government/judicial system approach to crime.
Whatever happens to people while in custody for serious crimes seems to do little to improve their behaviour on release. Instead it appears to instil in many of them an absolute sense of entitlement to the benefits provided by the law abiding section of the community while allowing them to behave without regard to others.
