Just found this on the Turkish Living forum:

53% of those dolphins who survive the violent capture die within 90 days.

The average life span of a dolphin in the wild is 45 years; yet half of all captured dolphins die within their first two years of captivity. The survivors last an average of only 5 years in captivity.

Every seven years, half of all dolphins in captivity die from capture shock, pneumonia, intestinal disease, ulcers, chlorine poisoning, and other stress-related illnesses. To the captive dolphin industry, these facts are accepted as routine operating expenses.

In many tanks the water is full of chemicals as well as bacteria, causing many health problems in dolphins including blindness.

When a baby dolphin is born in captivity, the news is usually kept secret until the calf shows signs of survival. Although marine mammals do breed in captivity, the birth rate is not nearly as successful as the one in the wild, with high infant mortality rates.

Wild dolphins can swim 40 to 100 miles per day - in pools they go around in circles.

Confined animals who abuse themselves (banging their heads against the walls) are creating stimuli which their environment cannot supply. Dolphins in captivity tend to develop stereotypical behaviors (swimming in a repetitive circle pattern, with eyes closed and in silence) because of boredom and confinement.

Dolphins are predators of fish and spend up to half of their time in the wild hunting for food. Supplying dead fish results in less exercise and lack of mental stimulation, thus causing boredom.

When trapped together, males often become agitated and domineering. This creates pecking orders (unknown in the wild) and unprovoked attacks on each other and the trainers. In the ocean, although fights are not unknown, the wild dolphins have a chance to escape.

The last paragraph os obviously why the 2 males are to be kept separate in those small cages!!!!!!!!!!!!

Sorry to be on my soapbox again but hate the thought of those dolphins in that 'POOL'

Anyone thought about this one?

What happens to their urine and faeces

What chemicals would be used to clear the water for human use?  I am sure it would harm the dolphins but what would it do to humans, especially children?  I wouldn't want to ingest that water under the guise of 'Therapy'

Thank you cheers, yes that was one of the issues put to the Mayor,
We need to see the plans so that we can see wether the filtration, purification, chloronation systems are actually going to be built and are they up to speck. The temperature of this tiny pool must also be regulated not only for the benefit of the dolphins but to ensure that all that wee, poo, and chopped up bits of fish, does not provide a toxic mix. It could act as a incubator for pathogenic bacteria!.
How ghastly it would be for those visitors that pay to take part in this cruelty to become sick!
We also need to know how the samples will be taken, how regularly and where the dickens they will be sent to for analysis
Regrettably the council does not know any thing of these matters, it has been left to the Russian
And no, I havent seen the plans yet. The mayor doesnt know where they are.

should add, well done Turlish Living Forum! perhaps another site that you might all like to contact. Please mention that the swim area is a mere 12 X 17 metres and will be divided into two
Went there today and building work is going ahead, just as the mayor has said.
Met a man with contacts in the RSPCA and Whipsnade Zoo. He has promised to bring this to their attention in the Uk when he returns there on Monday armed with fotos
Perhaps you might like to contact them too, I will post contact detail when avaliable.
Hurry, time is running out

would serve them bloody right (excuse my French)

By the way Judith I thought your idea of writing to Prince Charles was a good one but I don't think you posted it here yet.

Apparently Prince Charles was instrumental in saving the Turtle Beach or something in Dalyan and he has a home in Gocek (didn't know that b4 yesterday). He clearly has a vested interest in this area.

Anyway if you write (not email) you will always get a reply

Prince Charles at Clarance House, he may take up the cause - gotta be worth a try[?]

Sorry, I wrote it on the Oludeniz forum before we were one!
This is a plea to every one especially in UK
PLEASE just drop a line to HRH PRINCE CHARLES, Clarence House London
he will reply to every letter written
With D Bellamy he was instumental in saving Dalyan beach from proposed hotel development being built there and thereby setting up the turtle protection which is in
force
Therefore HE MUST KNOW WHO TO TALK TO!!
I beg each Brit with a relative or friend in Uk to write.
It may be their one letter which draws his attention to this
and what a brilliant way to get your children and grandchildren involved!
all it will cost is the price of a stamp.
Went to the puddle today... yes they are working on it

I am obviously a say it how it is girl "Wee, poo etc." and filtration, concentration systems go over my head!  All I know is that if I was at the entrance to his 'POOL' and I was with my daugher, son, niece, nephew, grandchild and someone asked me the question "Would you let them swim in a 'Pool' where they could get sick from lack of filtration, dolphins who may be dangerous, chlorinated water, disease" it would make me sit up and think!!  As I had paid I would probably go in but just sit off and watch and not any child take part - and I mean watch, I would know the ins and outs of the way those poor creatures were held and then spread the word and then come away and spread the word.  I would make sure that nobody I ever spoke to went to this cruel, barbaric place!!
