Seen this in the Fethiye Times.

"The Mayor of Fethiye was walking along the promenade in Fethiye with his family one evening early in the week when he saw a seagull, on the ground, struggling to breathe.

He picked it up and drove it straight to the Animal Welfare Centre, where the vet operated and removed a length of fishing line.

Within an hour of the operation the seagull had regained consciousness and the vet told local reporters: "We shall be releasing the gull in a couple of days.""

Shame he wasn't walking in Hisaronu and seen 2 dolphins struggling to survive.

A good observation Haggis2010 although it should be pointed out that the Mayor of Fethiye isn't the mayor for Hisaronu.

First a little bit of good news...

The good news is that the Bursa shopping centre with a Dolphin Park in a basement has closed due to lack of interest, and errrr it cost a lot of money to feed two Dolphins! £150,000pa!

The two Dolphins from Bursa have been moved to Bodrum which isn't such good news if you believe the place for Dolphins is free in the sea.

Now here is a warning...

yesterday a possibly Ukraniun man, dressed in a Marmaris Dolphin Park t-shirt alleging to be the cousin of the owner of Marmaris Dolphin Park (who is German) and a well dresses British woman were in a well known and popular restaurant in Fethiye, the Mulberry Tree.

After he had investigated the Born Free Live Free poster and Dolphin bags and generally had a good old nosey he demanded of the proprieter that he wanted to talk about Dolphins and who were and where could he find the Dolphin Angels.

Christine who has been a staunch support for the cause from day 1 gave him short thrift and sent him packing suggesting that he direct any enquiries he has to Born Free.

Now it could be something or nothing. Maybe he's heard we are in the market for a couple of Dolphins and has got two going spare. Who knows.

But, if you do encounter these people then mums the word but if they volunteer any info about what they want do please pass it on.

Thanks

I have just got back from Turkey and was staying in a very nice hotel up in the hills. whilst there I warned other tourists of the plight of misha & Tom and that they should sign up the Born free website.  While we were staying there was a very influential meeting going on and when asked who someone was it said Minister of Turkey and perhaps word is getting around.  Have seen the latest publications of Born Free and the investegative journalist getting on the case from London Tonight.  Must be all those emals and letters from us all.  People power!!Keep it up.  I have spread the word amongst the workers as I speak a little Turkish.

Although the action of the owner of the Mulberry Tree is commendable, its a shame you did not get the opportunity to speak to him.  I know it sticks in the throat to actually talk to some one from the Marmaris Dolphin Park but he may have had some information that may (I say may) have been useful. Info I am talking about could have been;

*  He had been offered the dolphins at a price.
*  He was down to inspect the dolphins prior to accepting them.
*  He was down inspecting the dolphins and was not going to take them
*  He could know the real price they will accept for the dolphins   (although buying them is not an option).
*  He may know where the Russian actually is.
*  He may have two more dolphins to add to rehab as you mention :D

He also may have wanted to voice his 'disapproval' of what is going on here but I am sure that there are many of us here, me 1st in line, to offer their services as 'bodyguards' so things would not get out of hand.

He will be able to ask Born Free all of these questions.

With over 20,000 "Dolphin Angels" it would be hard to give him an answer.  We have all just been promoted!!!!!!!!!

A Dolphin Angel reports as follows

"Did a drive by Dolphin Park at 12 noon and just returned same way (15.30).  Gates closed and locked (seemingly).  Absolutely NO-ONE around pool or elsewhere in park.  VERY QUIET.......Did see two bottle-nosed dolphins bobbing in the water though,..

Is this the beginning of the end, is our plan coming into play?

Watch this space for the latest developments as they happen.
