Actually I must admit I can't recall anywhere so consistently expensive, although it doesn't actually come as a shock as you know it's going to be! Our hotel was about 1 minute's walk from the Bridge of Sighs and was fantastic but hellish expensive! Seven quid for a beer [

] - They did a fantastic breakfast which was included in the price so we made sure we enjoyed plenty of that

I did see a few ciggie shops, although not much interest to me as I am not a smoker (and haven't been for a while now

)
But as you say, it is a fabulous place, we found it to be a brilliant time of year to visit - the drizzle making reflections on the marble floors, the lack of crowds, the HUGE ferries going past your window when you were getting ready in the morning, fog horns aplenty due to the morning mist

I think it is a great place to go for a romantic weekend with just you and your sweetheart, but also a great place with special friends, as it was this time:
