Carnival Charity Promises Auction

The annual Charity Promises Auction will take place during Carnival Week on Wednesday 26 May.  We will be setting up the auctioneer's podium in front of the Nil Bar and Orient Express Restaurants on Calis promenade and the auction starts at 7.00 pm. Visible items up for auction will be on display from 6.00 pm

We already have some great promises pledged for this very popular and important fundraising event which is the premier fundraising event of our year and all proceeds go directly to help the children in the local area.

Thanks to the generosity of our "pledgers" and our bidders the 2009 Carnival week auction raised over 8,000 TL which went a long way to helping the kids and we would love to equal or better this total.

The "promises" pledged for this year's auction are listed below and I will be adding to this list on a regular basis as new "promises" come in.  If anyone would like to pledge a "promise" or donate an item for the auction please could you e-mail me via my profile or at info@caliscarnival.com. All "promises" will be gratefully accepted.

We have some brilliant promises  pledged already by members of this forum - namely Barrie Gray and Jacqui Harvey and we cannot thank them enough.

As in previous years, commission e-mail bids both from Turkey and the UK will be accepted.


BIDDING INSTRUCTIONS

Here are the details for bidding, both for those who are able to attend the auction and for those who are bidding by e-mail.

Those attending on the night wanting to make bids will be asked to complete a form on arrival at the Nil Bar/Orient Express Restaurants giving your name address and contact details. You will then be provided with a "Bidding Number" card (cost 1TL) as in UK auctions.  You will also be able to pre-register and obtain a bidding card from the restaurants during the same day.  You will not be able to bid unless you have a bidding card. This makes it easier both for the auctioneer and for administering the winning bids. Money will be collected on the night where possible, "Promises" issued and official receipts given. For those unable to pay on the night, payment will be required within 7 days of the close of auction or the item will be withdrawn. In these cases the "Promise" will not be issued until the payment is received.

For those bidding by e-mail, please e-mail us with your commission bid at info@caliscarnival.com or you can e-mail me through my profile on this forum.

Advise us what you are bidding on and how much you are prepared to bid up to and our auctioneer will bid on your behalf up to your maximum bid - just like a real auction or on e-bay. Bids will be accepted up to 12 midnight Turkish time (10.00 pm English time) on the night of Tuesday 25 May when this facility will close.

All e-mail bids received will be acknowledged within 24 hours of receipt.

If you are a winning bidder we will e-mail you the day following the auction and advise how much the item has cost you. It will not necessarily be your maximum bid. We will then advise you how to make your payment (there are different methods depending on whether you are in UK or Turkey). Payment will be required within 7 days of the auction or your bid will be void.

You will receive a copy of your "Promise" signed by the person donating  by e-mail giving full contact details of how to contact them and how to claim your promise as well as a receipt for your payment once the funds have cleared through our account. A hard copy of the "Promise form" will also be sent to you in UK by the next supporter who is returning to UK. We will also arrange for any physical goods to be delivered to you as and when this can be arranged.

I hope that this clarifies the bidding system which has worked successfully for the last 3 auctions.

This is a Edwardian Evening bag in Silver Plated chain mail. Measuring 8" long bag alone and 13" with chain. This is a lovely bag in magnificent condition and has been well looked after. The chain mail is in excellent condition, the interior is cream satin and has some staining. It has it's own mirror in the interior pocket. Dating circa 1910

A Victorian cake/bread knife in its own box. The knife is silver plated with ivorine handle. Measuring 9 ½" long it has a serrated edge for cutting and a pattern along this edge. The box is red leather with a purple velvet lining and satin interior top. These piece where made for Wedding presents to cut the cake, circa 1890. Very good condition

A set of Fish/Cake servers in silver plate with ivorine handles. Made circa 1890. The knife measures 11 ¼" long the Fork is 8 ½". There is a matching engraved pattern on both pieces. Black leather box lined with blue velvet with cream satin lined interior lid. The set is in lovely condition, the cream satin lining has some age discolouration.

Chrissie works hard to get these events going and the more money that comes in is not only good for the kids but a thank you to her and her team for all the hard work that they put into the project.
