we have just come back from calis and called in to pay our council tax and found that we had to pay a road tax (one off)so we have been told. Our road tax after discount (25%) was 1350ytl is this about the right level of tax and who is paying it?

Yes Stoop!

Also before charging a road tax, Ciftlik Belediye should consider having roads.

I agree but nothing would surprise me. Maybe they will want payment in advance  ;)

Had an e mail from a neighbour at Violet today. He's just paid 495TL road tax for a 3 bed duplex. Normal council tax on top of that (abt 88TL). He also said that there is a 25% discount on the road tax if you pay before end of May. I'm assuming that his 495 is the discounted sum.

P.S. Just noticed I've reached 1500th post 8)

The road tax is worked on the value of your property when you bought it.That is the value it says on your tapu. You could own the same sort of property on the same site as someone else but say you bought yours ten years ago and your neighbour had only bought theres two years ago they would pay more than you because the value of thiers would be more on thier tapu as prices have gone up in that time.Hope this helps people understand a little why people owning similar properties are paying different prices.
