Flight cancellation charges
« on: June 07, 2010, 19:43:54 PM »
I have a flight booked that I purchased for somebody else. It is flying with Monarch through Travel Republic. I have to cancel the flight. I have looked on website and it says I will lose deposit, I paid in full, so I will end up losing 60% of cost, if I am Reading it correctly?
What I want to know is, has anybody been in this position and do you think they would let me change the date of flight to one for myself for next year or maybe pay accommodation for this Sept as I already have flight booked?
I emailed them yesterday but no reply as yet and have been on phone 20 mins and then gave up!
Any ideas or advice much appreciated. :(

You could appeal to their better nature Jenny. When is the flight for, I remember a few years back I had some flights booked with them and it was not totally sure wether my son's friend would end up coming with us, if we gave a fair bit of notice before the flight date was due we would not have lost the lot but I cant remember the time scales they set. They may let you pay for a name change and a different flight date. Good luck.

thanks Karen, it's for 26th Sept, if I had just paid a deposit I would have just lost that. But it says on website, over 45days, 60% loss of cost. I am a numpty! :(
I will ring them again in the morning.

Hi Ron
Have thought about that, but was waiting on what Travel Republic had to say, I would prefer them to let me spend the money on my September accommodation really, or a flight for next year,  :)

I think you will find that Travel republic have booked with Monarch and therefore its up to Monarch to make the adjustments you would like. Travel republic are likely to say they cant do anything (a similar thing happened to my parents last year). However, if they can give you a flight reference you may be able to have the discussion direct with Monarch.

Well I have just spoke to Travel Republic who advised as flight is not until end of September, I am able to change to a different flight.
BUT I want to go in May and am planning to go for at least 4 weeks, which brings me in June, and though there are flights going out, the June ones are not available yet, hope this makes sense!

Thats a really positive response from them - well done. At least it gives you a level of choice.

Jenny, I am shocked at the answer you received. When I read your question last night I thought "As If". I thought it highly unlikely that they would allow you to swap it and you would lose your money. Good on them for being one of the few travel Company's that appear to have some degree of customer service, and well done for asking.

Well that's what they have told me-whether or not I will get advised the same thing next time I call them may be a different matter altogether!
