I have to agree. I started off supporting the Netherlands but by half-time I was supporting Spain. Why? Because by half time, if the ref hadn't bottled it, the Dutch would have been playing with 8 men.

Hooray, justice was done. Spain played excellent football and brushed off the Dutch fouling. I never thought I'd be supporting Spain but they have been a credit to the game.

Couldn't not agree more, justice WAS done.

I hate to harp on, but the in the first 45 minutes, especially, the Dutch were a total and utter disgrace to football and, in the end, they got EXACTLY what their performance deserved

I was also supporting Spain, but I have to say if Howard Webb had of sent off Dutch players in the first half, it would have been a very poor game with just 9 players left playing for Holland.  Justice was done the right side won and we still had a watchable game.  I think Webb made the right decisions.

How can you slag the ref if he had gone by the book then the game would probably had to be abandoned due to the lack of Dutch players on the pitch.

If Webb had sent off the first player when he should have, perhaps the others would have got the message. If not, he has a duty to protect players from violent tackles. Just because it would have spoiled the spectacle is not a sound reason for not applying the laws of the game. I appreciate that Webb was in a position that had been made difficult by the Dutch but he made the wrong choice that will have sent out the wrong message to thousands of youngsters. I cannot believe that Kuyt thinks that Webb favoured the Spaniards.

Jacqui/mrkeith

I cannot quite believe that you don't think that the referee should have applied the rules of the game. Holland had gilt edged chances to score and if they had won the game it would have been a complete travesty because they should, without any question, have only had nine men on the field at half time
