« on: August 14, 2010, 06:45:01 AM »
Hi
My family and I are visiting Turkey for teh first time on Friday 20th AUG. Whats the best thing to do re spening money.
should i get a small amount changed in the UK to Turkish money and then use cash machines in turkey. or Just get iy all changed in the UK?

PS i bank with Nationwide not sure if that makes a difference?
PPS - Are there any cashpoints near the sunset beach club in Calis?

If you have a nationwide Flexi- account then you can withdraw money in Calis and do not have to pay charges, also you get a good rate at the time of exchange, much better than in the UK and better than in resort. Not sure if there is a cash point near sunset beach club.

Beware of the cash machine cons in Calis.

We have always changed sterling in Turkey because we get a better rate. You will see exchange places everywhere.  Word of warning - avoid clothes shop man in Fethiye (see associated threads.) Change money in amounts you can calculate easily e.g in £100s - always check the exchange in front of the person so any mistakes can be rectified.
Take a little turkish money from England to see you through the first day.  We have never had any problems! fingers crossed. Have a great holiday - it's a wonderful place. I am sure you will want to return.

Sunset Beach Club ... no ATM on the doorstep but there are a few in the middle of Calis which is only a  shortish stroll. Numerous ATM in Fethiye. As long as you are not withdrawing on a daily basis nor determined not to leave your complex, none of the ATM will be inconvenient for you.
Flex is good.

I know Sharky who runs the bar at Sunset will also change sterling for you not sure what sort of rates he offers compared to others exchanges but is another option for you. Noticed s few people doing it while we were there so mustnt have be too bad a rate

Like sue@henry we just take enough lira for the start of the holiday then change it, as and when, along the front with Frederick (souvenier /pottery stall) he always gives a good rate. The exchange shops(proper ones) in Fethiye are also usually good. The rate can very from day to day so it is worthwhile just changing what you need for a few days.
