Childhood Quips
« on: August 21, 2010, 17:18:11 PM »
For reasons upon which I shall not dwell, I was sitting in the toilet staring morosely at the back of the bathroom door when the following echo of 1950s school playgrounds forced itself to the top of my consciousness.

Here I sit,
Brokenhearted.
Paid my penny,
But only farted.

Don't throw away your chip chopper charlie
were frying the governor tonight
he was on the side board a chopping up chips
when all of a sudden he happened to slip
right into the boiling hot dripping
he tumbled in heels over head
don't throw away your chip chopper charlie
were frying the governor instead.

Sung around the Elephant & Castle  homes and schools after Costas
the owner of the Neptune fish bar met his demise in the manner described
in the ditty on coronation night.

A folk song in the making and one I still sing in folk clubs

Heinz beans are good for your heart
The more you eat
The more you fart!

Mary McGuire peed in the fire,
the fire was too hot so she peed in the pot,
the pot was too wide so she peed in the Clyde
and aw the wee fishes ran up her backside.

Ada McGuire peed on the fire
The fire was too hot so she peed on the pot
The pot was too round so she peed on the ground
The ground was too flat so she peed on the cat
And the cat an away with the pee on its back :-\

It's no good standing on the seat,
The crabs in here can jump six feet,
If you think that's rather high,
Try next door, where the bats do fly.

Little Willie went to Dover
Little Willie was run over
Thought it would be rather fun
Out into the road to run
That's the end of little Willie
He should not have been so silly
