Daily Mail Article About Fethiye
« on: August 27, 2010, 12:01:38 PM »
Page 89 of the Friday Friday 27th August issue of the Daily Mail has an article about the property market in the Fethiye and Kalkan area. Whilst the article is very positive, the picture of the harbour area is a bit dated.

Anyone care to put a year to it ?

It appears to be at the early stages of the excavation of the amphitheatre. Now, if I could only remember when that was :D

The article mentions renting out your  properties in Turkey but Nevzat Tilkici head of the Estate Agents is circulating leaflets condemning foreigners who do this as pirates! What is the reality of renting out your property?

In fairness I think he said foreign estate agents were pirates, that was a separate point to what he said about renting out. I found all his thoughts totally baffling.

Mr Peter Houseby - I recon this is yours & they are talking about Seaside!

There is a decent choice of properties for less than £250,000 throughout the area. A four-bedroom, three-bathroom villa with garden terrace, whirlpool spa and private pool overlooking the sea on Fethiye's Calis beach is £245,000 through Spot Blue.

The villa is part of a complex of 40 houses with three communal pools within walking distance of the shops, bars and the beachfront

I am puzzled by his comments too. Has anyone seen these leaflets and also I wonder what the Turkish understanding is of what will happen if an owner wants to sell on his property to another person. Not an estate agent, simply an owner wanting to sell on their own house. Is there some expectation that we simply walk away?If the taxes that are owed are paid I do not see what the problem is.

I think his point (and it is a ridiculous point) is that foreigners who buy in Turkey and sell on prevent a 'new' sale happening to a 'new' foreigner, thus losing the chance of making 2 sales to foreigners. This is in his opinion the reason for the downturn in sales to foreigners, nothing to do with credit crunches or economic downturns at all. Taken to a conclusion his view is that foreigners who buy a property in Turkey should keep it forever.

His position is financed by the estate agents he represents and I feel absolutely sure his views do not represent the views of his member agents. Posters and leaflets at airports? Let's hope that people arriving at Dalaman to meet estate agents don't see any of his posters or leaflets, or warnings about renting properties out might just cost his members some extremely valuable sales.

Thank you for the explanation. He is as you say discouraging people from buying with that outlook and it sounds very more like the attitude of a petulant child than a businessman.
I wonder if the Turkish businessmen who own property in Britain would like this attitude to their property sales.
