Downloading music to ipod

I would imagine a lot of members take their ipods mp3/4 players on holiday to listen to the music they like.I have just been given an ipod and want to download music to my pc and then onto my ipod.I have asked a couple of guys what the best sites are to do this,preferably free of charge.One sugested Limewire but then another said it was a dodgy site as you can easily download viruses with the music.Another said Bearshare but again I was told to avoid it so I am a bit stumped.I know I can download music videos from You
Tube but I just want the music songs not the video.So I am just wondering if anyone on here whose into dowloading music to an ipod  can advise me as to what good sites to go to,to do this. Thanks.

You need the ipod soft ware on your pc to load the pod.
There has been a massive clampdown on music and a lot of files are deliberately corrupted but you can get sortware to convert videos to mp3/4 format

As mrkeith says you have to have the itunes software to load the music onto your ipod and I would be ultra careful downloading from these free shareware sites as they are rife with viruses.

Delux,
first install Itunes on your computer, the apple software needed to load your ipod.
then download a bittorrent app, Vuse is one of the best and can be found at   http://www.vuze.com/.
then you can download all the music you want safely (but not legally)
Avoid limewire like the plague.

Thanks Mike. Yes I know I need Itunes to get the music onto the ipod.
What site/s do you sugest I download from though if not the likes of Limewire.

Mr Keith. What do you mean by software to convert videos to mp3/4 format.Are you saying I can just get the music from the video without puting the video on the ipod? The reason I dont want the videos on the ipod is because i would quickly use up all space available on it.I know all videos/musis has to be of mp3/4 to go on the ipod.

This in no way  guarantees the downloaded torrent is safe. Illegal downloads are rife with viruses. Better to look in local shops or eBay and buy CDs at a pound or two and then use iTunes to put them on your iPod

I do not have a favourite site for this but in all the time I have been downloading this way I have never had a virus problem,
but I have with limewire. mind you I am a mac user.

If you want to legally download music (I would suggest you download MP3 files on an ipod - the beauty being that they can be used in any format, whereas if you purchase in the Apple format, you cannot). Also, Apple tend to charge more.

The famous Money Saving Expert site has developed a site that easily compares the price of individual tracks, album tracks etc. I have used this regularly and find it very useful.  It also gives the price of CD's as well if you want to compare.

Thanks for giving me all this info mike. I am now finding the music/songs I want to put on my ipod.Just want to know is it usual to take about 6 hrs to download a single song. It seems I am waiting forever.
