Scunner's CBF Wine Club - Week 2
« on: September 11, 2010, 12:43:12 PM »
If you missed out on the superb offer on Yellow Tail Peeno Grijeo at Asda I posted about last week, here's another superb offer.

Red this week. Five Oaks Cabernet Sauvignon is half price at Tesco in their Wine festival (down to £4.49 per bottle). Plus 5% more for buying 6.

That's £4.27 a bottle and you won't find a comparable one under a tenner. Give it a go an tell me I'm wrong :D

Also, in the time I've been away, chardonnay seems to have become a little chavvy by reputation? Forget that, Five Oaks also do a chardonnay, half price & same deal at Tesco. Definitely worth £4.27  :)

Schucks- missed that last week as we were probably quaffing a 45ytl bottle of Angora at the time! I know amazing what you'll pay for something half decent when wine is all you'll drink! This week however as the nights are drawing in we're going for a cheeky little red number- Aldi Crianza at £3.99- its good and the reason we know that is its got gold thread round the bottle!

A good point Maria - when buying Spanish reds remember that the best ones have the gold wire net around them so look out for them. For other countries, look for pictures of barrels or run down rural buildings on labels of 'traditional' wine makers such as France and Italy. This will ensure a good quality wine. For 'New World' wines, quality can be found in bottles with labels that have lizards or any marsupial that appears to have been drawn by an infant.

I just went downstairs to tell Maria what you posted and how funny it was, then couldnt remember what you said by the time I got there! Maybe it's the gold wire?  :o
