Don't type your reply in the white box below. Instead, See the links just above there and click on "Reply to topic". This takes you to a new page for you to write your reply. The smilies are all there on the left side of the box you type in. When you get to the bit where you would like to add a smilie, click on the smilie you want. That's it, the smilie is in your reply. You can carry on typing again if you want to after adding it.
