Trip to Cappadocia

Just been up to Cappadocia and stayed in the Cappadocia Dora pansion in Goreme.  Even though recommended in Lonely Planet guide personally would not recommend:-\  All rooms supposedly have wc/shower - ours didn't.  On first floor, shower room was across the hall under the stairs but the loo was downstairs right by reception!! (no ventilation it stank too!) Middle of the night trip down there not an option (son of owner slept in reception area as well)  
Otherwise fabulous trip, amazing landscape especially from a balloon.
We stopped in Isparta on the way back, place to avoid.  Very much a 'working' town and not an Efes in sight
well worth a visit is Sagallossos (just outside Burdur) Expected to rival Ephessus in a few years time. It was awesome but be aware that all the artifacts (statues, jewellery etc.) have been taken to Burdur museum so, if going, plan to see both.

Hi Claire What a small world we were there too last week and we stayed at the Village cave house hotel just round the back from were you were staying.We were lucky, the hotel was really nice. The rooms were just what they said ,we stayed in a cave room it was lovely.
We were out walking one day and we thought it was your car that we saw but wasnt quite sure...
We also did the balloon trip, what a way to see the place. I agree with you its a wonderful place to visit.

Hi Sue, small world!!  Could have met up for an Efes!  We had a balloon drift past our bedroom window about 10ft away, good job I had jammies on.
the blurb in Lonely Planet was a bit misleading but that's life.  Did you do tours, go to the Open Air Museum.  for those who've not been the museum has loads of Churches, the Elmali Museum frescos were wonderful.  And there's another Church down the road from the museum which is even better.
Hi Alan, the cost for both of us was 556tl but I'm sure you could knock that down, especially at this time of year or beginning of season.  It really was fabulous, you're up for about an hour/hour and half, blooming cold and our pilot landed back on the trailer.  Very impressive.
Another point is that it is colder up there, especially evenings

We hired a car as Mike has been ill and could not go on the hikes but thats a good excuse to go back!!. We tried to cram in as much as we could while we were thereI I loved Uchisar castle thought it was an amazing sight and like you said loads and loads of churches. We also saw the monastry at selime and went to the Whirling Dervish ceremony in an underground cave which was also a nice experience. Just so much to see and do. Ilhara valley was beautifal and we topped that off with lunch in the middle of a river at Belisirma. Its a place i would tell everyone to visit if they get the chance.

You must have used "Kapadokya Balloons",am I right? They are the best and longest serving balloon company.

We went in May this year by coach from Fethiye and stayed in the Kelebek Hotel in Gorme which a lovely hotel but up a hill and many steps to go up and down to bedrooms and breakfast room. We were very fit when we got back.Wonderful place but you do need warm clothes and sensible walking gear, boots, trousers,jacket etc.It's definatley a walking area that's the best way to see it if you can.All the trips were wonderful and to watch the hot air balloons taking off at dawn is spectacular.I have no head for heights so stayed on the ground.It cost us for travel ,12 hours on a coach with 5 stops, 3 nights in the hotel b&b and the occasional evening meal plus 3 G&T's each every night, also 3 trips ,£200 each.
