I was on the Doncaster flight out on Wednesday and got charged £24 for being 2 kilos overweight. Many people got caught this way and they were weighing hand luggage at random.

All hand luggage was weighed when we went out in May, I was 5 1/4 kilos and was told to transfer a book to my husband's
hand luggage!!   On the way back in June hand luggage was also weighed, however when we travelled in August, no one weighed the hand luggage going or coming back!!  As for suitcases, T.C. clearly state on their website that there is a 20 kilo limit on each case.   It seems that £12.00 per kilos is what is charged for excess, as we noted in September when the guy next to us was charged £12.00 for his over weight case. It's best for people to invest £1.99 in a set of scales and weigh their cases, particularly on the return journey.

The Wife flew back from Manchester last Friday with TC.She had 7kg in her hand luggage, 22.5kg in her case and about 2kg in her coat pockets.:DShe did not pay an extra penny excess baggage.I guess it just depends on who checks you in.

250 grams to be moved to someone else on the same plane, this just before you can go to duty free and buy as many kilograms of bottles of whisky as you like to take on the same plane. It is getting pretty ridiculous.

I also pay full price x2 for two kids who weigh next to nothing but I get charged £18 for being 2kg over across 4 separate allowances (i.e. 500g over each).

A friend of mine got asked to pay for a couple of kilos of excess so he stood at the counter removing things and getting the case re-weighed each time. After the fourth or fifth reweighing, the people behind were getting really annoyed (tutting and everything) and the counter tubby just said "oh, just put it all in and forget it".
So make a nuisance of yourself, it might work.

Oh, and when he got home he found he had inadvertantly packed a 2k lead weight from the dive centre.

The problem with that Blackadder is that if your hand luggage is well over as well it will definately be weighed as well.Mines was well over.

Just ask whoever takes you to the airport to hold a separate bag with all your heavy stuff then once you're checked in just put it back in your hand luggage bag  :)
