House Numbers
« on: October 16, 2010, 21:20:27 PM »
Does anyone know who is responsible for numbering the houses in a street amd how I would go about getting my house numbered?  When I was applying for residency, the Muhtar got a bit huffy when I told him the house didn't have a number but he signed whatever he had to sign eventually.  The block of houses I live in has 4 streets around it but all seem to have the one street as the address whereas my house actually fronts onto another street. This seems to confuse the postman and cargo companies. I have found mail to me dumped on a tip and lots of mail, that I know has been sent, never arrives.
Thanks for any help.

Have you asked your neighbours what address they use?  It maybe that the house has a name you aren't aware of - some properties seem to have offical names and names they are known by.

Where we live the Belediye allocates the house/apartment numbers as we found out when he changed ours and the resy of the village just after we had put up signs.

The council changed our door numbers a couple of years ago, we live in Fethiye.  If you have any Turkish neighbours, they could ask the postman for you, ours is always moaning if we receive mail addressed to our old door number, so he must have been informed of the change.

You can go into the council offices above the new Migros and ask there, they have the street plans and the numbers of the roads and houses etc on them, I had to do recently when confirming my address with the nufus for my residency permit.

Thanks for the replies. I have asked the neighbours previously, with no success. I will try the council offices.
