30% on Raki - now 50 TL for a bottle of Raki

12-15% on wine, spirits and Efes... oh dear, of dear, oh dear :-\

All increases with immediate effect -

Does the goverment not realise the impact that this will have on tourism also? Have they never heard of 5% increases rather than these HUGE hikes?
Not good news for bar/restaurant owners and folks who like a wee drink.
:D

Oh dear that is steep.I only have 2 or 3 when I am out and drink my duty free at home but it will certainly push up holiday spending for the ones who like to party.

Not only tourism Toky.

I was hoping to retire a couple of years early and join the ex-pats out there. Now I'm not so sure I can afford it!

Nicola
Since you are in the business I am tentative in contradicting you but internet sources are suggesting things are even more drastic than you say. These say that taxes on ALL spirits are going up by 30%, wine by 25% and beer by 26%.

The AKP say this is to help meet 2011 budget targets. But is it prudent economic policy or religious dogma?

I presume you must be talking about a litre bottle costing 50TL?  This article suggests that the price of raki will be 35 TL for a 70cl bottle:
