three hours time difference ?
« on: October 29, 2010, 17:09:48 PM »
There is talk that here in the UK the clocks may not be altered again after tomorrow... if that materialises I calculate we will be three hours then behind Turkey  next season.
As well as the domestic  UK tv programmes time difference, the biggest disappointment to me will be mid week football matches kicking off at 11pm ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ :-( and saturday matches 6pm kick off  :-(
and what with the latest news of alcohol price increases... Turkish bar / restaurant prices next season, will be more expensive than the UK !!!        things looking glum

I think we in the UK have a duty rise in 2011 as well as a 2.5% increase in VAT. Booze isn't gonna be cheap here either.

It's not just that the price of wine is going up, it's that the price of already overpriced, rubbish wine is going up :-\

Not on wine prices we 'aint! You can still get a good bottle here for a lot less than some of the crap wines they sell in Turkey.

Have a look on Morissons web-site, all you 'Ex-pat Turkeyites', & weep!! Another example of good old British seasonal marketing, not Turkish greed. Mind you, if you pay virtually NOWT for water, Community Tax, the Turkish Government is going to get some cash from you all somehow!!
Oh, so VERY, VERY glad to be back in the U.K.
As I have said on here previously, if your continued sojourn in what you all USED to call 'Paradise', depends on whether you can afford to buy alcoholic beverages, or not, YOU CANNOT AFFORD TO LIVE THERE!!
GET a life!!
Gordy.

Have a look on Skyscanner for flight only Man/Dal for last week in May, first week of June. When I have paid for my hotel it is cheaper to go AI in Mexico!  Turkey is the LOSER for tourists next year!!!

In fairness flights are not cheap anywhere these days and long haul does appear better value. We flew to Thailand this year (14 hrs with a flight change and with Emirates -32kg each and food, entertainment and free drinks) for about £500 each all in. Turkey at £250 looks expensive in comparison. Even Portugal cost us £125 each this month and 3 years ago we were going for £75 each.

Bargains are still out there but they are harder to find and even when you do get them and book you can't be sure they will not change the damn thing at the last minute!

I am fairly sure that is incorrect. If the bi-annual meddling with the clocks is stopped it will be next March after they have been put forward an hour to British Summertime  ;) This will maintain the 2 hour gap in summertime but we will only be one hour behind in winter unless Turkey changes as well  8)
