From one insurance company today, the following quote:

Fully comprehensive: £203
Third Party, Fire & Theft: £223

Not sure which way to go yet :-\

As it is so cold where you live maybe they think you are going to burn it :D

I have seen that many times - it really means "s*d off - we don't do third party fire and theft" but they are too polite to say so  ;)

It was mentioned a few weeks ago on Watchdog that it's worthwhile going Fully Comprehensive these days because insurance companies were making 3PF&T more expensive.

KKOB I watched that program too, they also advised to change companies each year to benefit from the introductory discounts. I found that out this year to my cost, so next year will use another company.

I now have 3 cars (I know, I know) and change insurers each and every time. After another successful year avoiding hitting anything, the RAC rewarded me with another year's no claims bonus which helped my premium to go UP another 70 quid! A cheery letter advised me to "relax, you're covered for another year". Oh no I'm not, I rang them and told them there was no way they were to take the new premium of £286.24 - a few go compares later and I'm relaxed and insured elsewhere at £197.

There's not much loyalty in business these days - but in car insurance there is none at all - if you want to be loyal to your current insurer, you're the very customer they make their profits from.

Seems ridiculous but as a past seller of this insurance I would be interested to know what the excess was on each policy.

My first thought is that the Fully Comp might have a much larger excess thus making the policy cheaper than the TPF&T (especially if you have a good driving record). Then again it just could be a crappy computer program that has given out wrong quotes  :)

I have a perfect driving record (I was abroad for 5 years so no accidents or convictions to admit to :D )

I just changed the cover type from Fully Comp to see the difference with 3rd party Fire & theft so everything else including excesses remained the same for both.

Maybe you live in and area that has more car fires and thefts than excellent drivers running into other cars - Yes I'm joking.

I didn't realise you'd been here :D

Another advantage of living abroad is that your penalty points just come off your licence - mine was clean for the first time in around 6 years while I was away.
