Computers for schools appeal

If you are thinking of upgrading/changing your PC or laptop, the 3C's are appealing for any computers, printers etc which you no longer require, to distribute to the poorer local schools and other children's organisations in the local Calis/Fethiye area.

Today, some members of the committee visited Kargi village school to present them with a computer system which had kindly been donated by forum member Cenk of Interturk Estates.  The school were thrilled and the computer will be put to good use.  A big thanks Cenk :D

Kargi is one of several schools that the Calis Children's Charity is helping from the proceeds raised during the 2010 Fundraising year. We have already provided the school with a ceiling mounted projector for use with computer and screen which is already being put to good use and are hoping to order books plus other much needed equipment in the very near future.

This is one of four projectors that we have bought in the last month at a cost of 3,600 TL, others havng been donated to Nif Arpacik village school and Vali Recei Gureli school in Fethiye. The fourth is still to be allocated.

We have several other children's projects under consideraton at the moment and details and photographs will be published in the next few weeks as they reach completion. We have already committed to funding 10 bursaries to help poorer students attend university who otherwise would be unable to afford to do so. This is the third year that we have provided these bursaries at a cost of 9,000 TL each year.

But back to the computer equipment, we have had a request for computers from a local rehabilitation centre attended by both mentally and physically handcapped children as well as from several village schools so if anyone has an old computer, laptop or printer gathering dust please contact us and let us know and we will come and collect it from you and make sure it finds a good home.

Thank you  :) None of the above would be possible without your support.

We have visited several schools etc. this year and in previous years but the rehabilitation centre visit has stayed on  my mind since we went. Not like the places in England trust me. Most of these children are from very poor homes and we had a request for suitable clothing for the children and their families. Ages are from 3 years old upwards and on this occasion we are also collecting for their parents so any items would be gratefully received. They do an excellent job in this centre but it is very poorly equipped. I know that they have had help from other sources but if any of you could help we would be very grateful. Thanks.

Thats a very kind thought Sunlover, lets hope someone is driving out.

The rehabilitation centre would like two computers, they don't care if they are new or old, pc or laptop, so long as they are working! They are used to teach the children, who have all types of disabilities, on a one to one basis and it is great to see the dedication of the teachers.

Just a thought if anyone knows of any businesses who are changing/upgrading their computers, we would welcome these to donate to various village schools etc.

I put an old (but working) pc in the loft last week, if anyone is driving over and wants to take it you are welcome to it.

Thats a real shame Carole - saying that I am not that suprised as we approached them once to bring back some raffle items as excess baggage but they said they have their own yearly charity which they support so do not do other charities.

Bewva, I take it you are in England?  Thanks for your kind offer but again it is the problem of getting it out here
