Silkar Ilkogretim Okulu in Gunlukbasi
« on: March 27, 2011, 12:30:07 PM »
On Wednesday 23rd March FIG visited Silkar Ilkogretim Okulu in Gunlukbasi and, most excitingly for the children, we took ‘Magic fingers' the clown with us, courtesy of Mehmet from Dededen Toy Shop.  He brought with him a huge box of goodies, consisting of varied educational toys from puzzles to writing boards, books, musical instruments puppets and puppet theatre coloured paper for crafts, scissors and crayons and many more items that had been requested.

Zuhal Serdaroglu the teacher came at the beginning of the school year to open this new nursery class, she is a very dedicated teacher and an enthusiastic one, but we found that nearly everything in the classroom was begged stolen or borrowed from other sources.  She had even begun to buy books from her own pocket.  Both she and the children were delighted with the visit and the arrival of some very useful equipment.

After being refreshed by tea and cakes we took the opportunity to make a list of further needs; these include a computer to run the overhead projector, black out curtains or blinds, desks and chairs for both pupils and teacher, hooks for coats and shelves for shoes and cupboards for books and toys.  Work will now progress to assess the requirements in more detail and make orders.
Many thanks to all our supporters who have made this work possible.

The teacher  has a genuine concern for her pupils and more or less set all this on her own like Julie says. We were very impressed when we met her last year. We gave the help that we could but much more was needed. Did they ever get the garden done Julie?
